【二十二】chemistry

Akaashi always see this one short girl around the novel section at the library near his house.

She always has her white strip with blue colour earphones plug on her ears and she try to reach out for books. What surprise Akaashi the most is, she's not wearing any shoes but socks.

Maybe that's what attract him to her.

Akaashi assume that she's a third-year as well like him since she have a similar references book as him. Not stalking but she always sit beside the empty table beside him.

"Excuse me," the setter look up from his book.

There, in front of him, just like any other cliche fanfiction story, the girl stand in front of him with Chemistry book on her hand. She has her glasses on this time. Maybe for studying.

"Yes?"

She scratch her cheek awkwardly. "Uh, are you a third-year as well? I have some Chems question that I don't understand. If you don't mind helping me,"

"Yes, I am," Akaashi nod. "Have a seat. I'm quite good in Chemistry," he say.

She breathe out a relief sigh. "Oh thank God. Oh, my name is [Last Name] [Name] by the way. I'm from Kuhaku Girls Academy,"

"I'm Akaashi Keiji from Fukurodani Academy," he reply, smiling a little.

Akaashi thought [Name] will be like other girls at his school where they come and pretend to ask him a question just to flirt with him but boy, she goes straight to the point and pick up quick.

"Ah, I see. That's how it happened," she nod. "Thank you, Akaashi-san! I appreciate it very much," she bow a little before going back to her place.

"Uh, [Last Name]-san," he call her name out a little bit loudly

She turn around with brows raise up.

"D-Do you mind studying with me u-until college entrance exam?" he stutter a little.

She shrug and smile at him. She pack her things up and sit in front of him. "Of course I don't,"

Weeks and months pass by and the two become very very close. Brushing against each other hands are not weird anymore.

Akaashi is surprise to know that [Name] is quite a smart student. He always use her exam papers as a study references since she always get high marks. Mostly A or B. Only her Chemistry paper that is C.

"Where are you applying to?" she ask, playing with her pen and blow her hair away from her face.

"University of Tokyo. How about you?" Akaashi look up from his book.

"No way! Me too," she grin widely. "But I'm applying to Taiwan as well since I took HSK Chinese Advance Exam and pass with flying colours," she sing out.

Akaashi scoff. "I'm not even surprise anymore. What do you eat to become smart?" he complaint.

"I eat food," she say in a duh tone. "But I always complete my homework at school and study at library until 6 PM if I don't have any club activity," she say.

"Ah, I see," Akaashi nod. He barely complete his homework at school since he's busy with other things.

[Name] sigh. "I'm going to miss studying with you like this," she mutter out.

Akaashi observe her features. It's a lie if he say he doesn't have special feelings for her. It grows over the months spending time with her. His chest feel pain at the thought of her leaving Japan for Taiwan.

"Welp, I'm going to find another Mandarin novel," she skip towards the section.

The setter take that chance to write something on his sticky note and stick it on her notebook.

"I'm going to miss her," he sigh.

She look at her parents and shake her head with a small smile. She hand over the letter back at them.

"Are you sure? Going to Taiwan is your dream," her mother ask.

"It's not everyday the prestige university over there will send you a scholarship offer," her father say.

She shake her head. "I can't leave someone over here, okā-san, oto-san. He's going to miss me a lot," she reply.

The two old couple look at each other and smile, giving their permission to their daughter to do so.

Akaashi sigh. Not a single text or call from her after the last entrance exam to University of Tokyo. She left him on read after he texted her that he got in.

She probably in Taiwan right now.

"What's with the long face?" Konoha, one of his senpai who got into the same university as him, ask.

"Nothing," he sigh and stand up. "I'm going to the library. We meet at the cafe for lunch," he say.

"Aight!"

The library is different from the library where he met [Name]. But it has the same vibe.

Suddenly, a hand stick something on his book when he's doing a revision for tomorrow pop quiz.

I like you too :)

He look up and grin at the familiar face who's still wearing the same earphone.

"Care for a study date?" she ask in teasing manner.

"Have a seat. I'm quite good in dating you," he tease back.

She laugh a little. He smile at her, glad to see her. There's a mysterious connection or a chemistry between them and they both know it.

All because of one Chemistry question.
