Lawrence's New Home

I sat in room in utter shock. Did I land on a dead body? Was Maeve even aware that there was a corpse in her so called home? She didn't even bat an eye. I tried my absolute best to show her I was scared and disturbed but she had continued talking to me like our situation was normal. She didn't belong in a basement. If she didn't have real guardians then who knows what she's been doing.

My mind wandered to a much more deadly conclusion. Has she been killing people? I had to do something. Whether my assumptions are correct or not, I had to check before calling someone to get her out of there.

Later that night, I did go back. I wanted to make sure Maeve wasn't there waiting so I never told her I would visit. Her behavior was getting more odd by the hour. She not only followed me the whole day, but she was glaring at Cody and Mitchell every time they were with me. She even tried telling some girl that she was my girlfriend so that girl would stop talking to me. I felt bad about how my friends have been treated by Maeve. Socially awkward or not, her attitude was horrible. Well almost horrible. When she was with me she used a softened tone of voice and never lacked in the compliment department.

I crawled into her hideout with a flashlight in one hand, and a note in the other. Lets do this.

I decided to open the bag I landed on the night before. If I could identify what exactly it is...

I regretted everything after opening that bag. The person inside was a boy my age, and the blood smelled so fresh. Like he was killed less than a month ago. He had several stab wounds, but that wasn't the worst part. His heart was ripped out. Like it was gone. He had something else in the open wound instead...it was filled with heart candies. I looked at the boys face to see if I knew him. He had blonde hair, and a button nose. He didn't exactly have any features I could recognize.

I left the poor boy's corpse alone and walked into another room. There was a note on a particular door. It said: Feminine Waste. Usually this kind of phrase would mean something along the lines of, girl products. For periods or something. The door was too suspicious to leave alone though. I opened the door. Frozen in terror, I looked at what was before me.

It was girls. At least ten of them. Butchered and killed, hung in body bags by the ceiling or nailed to the floor. One of them was still moving...

"L-Lawrence...*cough* is that you?"

I knew her. Wait. She was the girl that Maeve lied to so she would stay away from me.

"I..." The girl looked down at her open stomach.

"Oh my god! Oh my god! I am going to call for help okay?" I said, worried.

She looked slower, like she was losing it. No no no no. Maeve did this? WHY?

"What's your name please tell me" I asked the poor poor girl.

"Kimberly Redwood." She answered with nothing more than a whisper.

I called 911. I told them about Kimberly and she needed help and fast. I lied saying I was just causing trouble in the school after hours and I ran into a severely injured girl, along with much more dead girls. Everything went by fast and before I knew it, Kimberly was in the ambulance, and I was sent home.

School was canceled the next day.

I watched the news. All the girl's names were listed. Two boys were found though. Derek and Alex. There were apparently deemed as missing for 4 weeks. Along with a particular girl named Cassidy, who was found like charcoal in a sleeping back and chest. My heart broke for each one who didn't make it. To my relief, Kimberly was alright.

I walked into my own basement to grab my laundry. I heard a door close. Ugh. How many times do I have to tell my dad not to close the door on me!?

Oh but it wasn't my dad. Oh how I wish it was my dad. When I walked upstairs I saw her.

Maeve.

"A snooper are you? I find it flattering how you wanted to learn about me Lawrence. You could have just asked me. I would tell you anything. But your curiosity made me have to leave my home."

"Maeve..." I breathed.

"What is it baby?"

Ignoring that she just called me that, I use her claim against her.

"alright, if your going to admit anything to me for some odd reason Maeve...was it you who killed all those girls? Along with the two boys?"

There was a cold silence.

"I did."

"...why."

"They either tried to steal Alex. Or you. I wanted to say this in a better situation but I love you Lawrence."

Never in my life would I ever think of those words a worrying, let alone horrifying.

"Cody and Mitchell are really close to you."

"Don't you touch them Maeve!"

"I learned something about you Lawrence."

"What..."

"You never told anyone. You always ignored it."

Confused, I gestured her to keep talking.

"Maybe...you are."

What am I!?

The moments afterwards scarred me. Maeve ran through my basement door and locked it. I heard plenty of screaming. Lots of stabbing. She killed my parents. She. Killed them.

When she came back in, I was in tears.

"We can live together now. You don't have to worry about school anymore."

I was silent. As long as she didn't hurt Mitchell...I would have a strand of hope.

It terrified me that she knew my secret.

I let the night consume me. Along with Maeve's unwanted bloody kisses.
