ONE

"Happy 10th birthday Alison!" They are screamed at the child. The petite girl jumped around and clapped, a smile plastered on her face, even though of her growing age. Laughter erupted at the girl's actions, as music blared through the halls.

People spreaded around the hall, joining themselves into new conversations, leaving Alison spinning around to the music playing. Alison's mother, Bella, stared in amusement, her eyes lighting up with joy, as this might be the first normal thing that happened in the family.

"Things might be okay" Bruno, Bella's husband and Alison's father, spoke softly, lingering a kiss on her cheek. Bella looked down, knowing things would never be okay, and that Alison would eventually found out the truth.

"She'll find out eventually" Bella whimpered, a tear slowly strolling down her face, picking up some mascara on its way.

"Eventually. But not today." Bruno snapped, very protective over Alison's safety.

Deciding to not get into the argument, Bella stormed away, to find her daughter shoving her face with cake. A smile once again stretched over Bella's face as frosting was dabbed on Alison's small nose.

"Hi, mom" Alison smiled, chocolate crumbs dripping down her party dress. Bella shook her head and took a seat next to her, grabbing a napkin in the process.

As Bella wiped away the chocolate, an unfamiliar man caught her eye. Turning to face him, Bella soon realised the man was staring right back at her, eyes burning into hers. She was positive not even Bruno knew this man, and anxiety tied a knot in her heart.

A kidnapper? A murderer? Who the heck was this guy?

Bruno soon approached the man, obviously realising Bella's staring. Words were thrown between the two and Bella couldn't help but finally use her ability for good.

That was the truth. The family wasn't normal. Bruno, Bella and Alison all had powers, abilities they preferred to call them. Bruno was excellent at combat, could sense the future in seconds, meaning he could already see the attacker's plan. Bella was exceptional with hearing, which weren't so helpful with combat, but worked very well with learning other people's plans. Then there was Alison. Neither of her parents could explain the gift she was given, she could control the elements.

Earth. Fire. Water. Air.

It confused the whole family deeply, making Bruno even assume Bella had a one night stand with a god nobody's ever heard of, which, of course, Bella denied. After many accusations, the couple were forced to believe it had came from her ancestors, and that it had just missed a few generations, and it just so happened to land on Alison's.

Deepening her hearing, Bella could sense an argument brewing, and Bruno's anger slowly growing, meaning someone had to step in before it became too late. Standing up from her chair and straightening her dress, Bella sophisticastly started to walk over to the two. However, before she could even reach, she heard some sentences she wish she never did.

"We've got this place surrounded, and you so called superheroes ain't leaving here alive" The man snapped, making Bruno automatically raise his fist, but he couldn't move it any closer, like a field was stopping any contact.

A cry soon came from Alison as windows from around the hall began to smash, making guests protect their children in fear.

"Get on your fucking knees now" The man demanded to Bruno and Bella, Alison being held close by a guest. Bruno and Bella stared at each other, fear and anger crashing into each other.

Without protest, Bella slowly dropped to her knees, her hands slowly raising above her head, her lip lightly trembling. She wouldn't usually give in, but in a situation like she was, surrounded by guards and scared children, she knew she didn't stand a chance.

Bruno followed in suit, the trousers of his tux creasing against the wooden floor. Bella wasn't sure if it was her hearing ability or not, but could many hearts thumping around her, synchronising as one.

The man stepped forward, his face handsome and sharp, like he could cut with it. His hair would slicked back with gel, like a cow had pinned him down and started licking his head furiously. Bella kept her head down as she heard the safety of a gun switch off. She gulped the bile down in her throat, the disgusting flavour travelling back down, she could of thrown up at the fact someone was this sickening.

"Just tell me where the last piece of the tesseract is, I'm not stupid, I could see a piece was snapped off" The man boomed loudly, the echo deafening for Bella. The parents both knew exactly where it was, it was on a necklace, given to Alison for her birthday.

She diverted her eyes for a second, the man not realising it was hung around Ali's neck.

Obviously not happy with the silence, a gunshot was heard. Bella looked up in panic as Bruno was laying on the floor, blood dripping from his head, obviously not sensing quick enough.

Bella and Alison screamed in agony, watching the blood pour onto the floor, flooding over the floorboards. Bella's breathing deepened, knowing that Alison had just watched her father been murdered.

"You asshole!" Bella screamed, tears now parading over her face, baby hairs sticking out of their places from the stress.

"You wanna tell me now? Huh?" The man boomed once again, aiming the gun now at Bella.

"No!" Alison screeched, as loud as her little lungs would would go. The man,clearly not thinking, aimed the gun at Alison and didn't hesitate in pulling the trigger.

Before the bullet could even go near her body, Bella dived in front of the bullet, it going straight into her heart.

Alison's voice was parched and dry from all the screaming, she watched as blood slowly trickled from her Mum and Dad's body.

Her sore, blurry eyes were soon torn from their bodies as guests were being ushered out from hall, as a man in a red, iron suit was busy dealing with the man.

Happy 10th birthday Alison.
