It's been a quiet couple of days. Houston and I have been enjoying the much welcomed break. We've been spending a lot of time with Virginia and getting to know more of the people from town.
Houston is set to start at the local school on Monday, so we did spend the last day or so preparing for that. He now has his new Marvel back pack, and some notebooks, crayons, etc. I'm glad he's excited to start and more importantly to him make new friends.
Huey made me practice with him for a few hours on how to make friends. I think it's important even if it feels goofy. He's never been in school and so he's never met friends or other kids his age.
I also have started looking for a job, there really isn't that many places hiring but word has spread around town that I've been looking. Some people have reached out with offers, and I have been considering them.
The problem is they are either a job in a field I know nothing about, or they want to pay me five dollars an hour, which even if I had 2 jobs wouldn't work for me. So my search continues.
I'm spending my Sunday morning enjoying pancakes that Virginia made while I look in the local paper for any job listings.
"Somehow I just don't think Grave-digging is for me." I say aloud as I cross it off the paper.
"You never know," Virginia says sipping her tea. " You might enjoy the smell of dirt and dead people. And maybe you'll be good at it."
I summon my nastiest face and throw it her way.
"I'll have to ignore my curiosity on that one." I say sarcastically.
"Oh! You know what, my cousin is looking for a secretary. "
"I've been looking for the last 5 days and NOW you tell me she's hiring?"
"First of all, I only found out a few days ago. Second of all, she's a he." She gives me a pointed look.
"Oh okay. Did he give you any other details? Like what kind of work it would be?"
"No but I can give you the address and you can go down there. He's not big on phones so I doubt he would answer if you called. Probably why he wants a secretary."
Sigh. Well it wasn't like I was doing anything else today.
Upstairs in my room, I pick out some professional-ish clothes. Its not an interview but it is a first impression, and I don't plan to show up in lounge pants and a long sleeve pj shirt.
I had finally gotten around to getting some basic make up products. I've never been one to wear a lot, but I do like having defined brows and dark lashes at the very least.
After applying some mascara, I decide to tackle my hair. I have loose natural curls, so I don't really have to do much. I decide to put it in a high pony, pulling some strands of hair out near my temples. I put a quick coat of lip gloss and check the mirror.
I went with a pair of dark blue jeans, stretchy ones of course. And I put on a deep blue blouse, this one has 3/4 sleeves and a zipper at the very top. I guess so you can free the girls a bit. I don't plan on flashing a potential boss, so I keep that zipped all the way up.
I put on my new winter boots and spray a bit of my peppermint spray from bath and body works.
I make sure to grab my wallet with my ID in it. Also I grab a copy of my resume from my bag.
Once downstairs I find Huey in front of the TV.
"Huey I need to talk to someone about a job, I need you to go put on a jacket and some boots."
