“I lost my eyesight in exchange for the gift of being able to see the future” her voice was steady and calm, “Do you think it was worth it?”
Kisame looked at the woman before her in awe. How could she be so calm and collected after such a thing? Her once steel-grey eyes were now colored a much lighter shade. He couldn’t believe the sight---she actually did it! His mouth opened, ready to speak words but before he could, Itachi held out a hand to stop him.
“What did you see?” Itachi inquired, measuring her expression carefully. “I foresaw so much…” she breathed, “It is truly overwhelming how much can happen in the span of a year.”
Her eyes met with Itachi’s and then slowly moved to meet Kisame’s. The light behind her eyes glistened in a way that told him she knew everything.
To begin with, he hadn’t believed in such a fairytale-- the ability that allowed one to foresee the future. Kisame saw the beautiful lavender haired woman as a fraud, often challenging the things she saw. As time progressed, he slowly began to see that she was true to her word. So he challenged her sightings of the future in a lighthearted way instead. It was an innocent game he played with her which she welcomed freely.
“I couldn’t possibly narrow it down to a few words”
“I highly doubt that” Kisame deadpanned, earning a giggle from her. It was true, she often summarized her findings quite eloquently. They were often in a form of code, unless they were in dire circumstances.
“I’ll give you enough to give you a slight advantage, but not enough to change the outcome of the future.” she would tell them, something that often got her in a great deal of punishment at the Akatsuki base.
“We meet an honorable end for the future to be bright, Kisame.” Silence filled the room after she spoke. All the while, her eyes lingered on him long enough to make the man feel flustered. His heart thumped a little harder at the intimacy she’d held in her gaze. In turn, she laughed to herself knowingly and walked out to the back porch.
A vein popped in his head as he watched her in annoyance. It irked him how easily she could get to him sometimes. “I don’t know you to be easily intimidated, Kisame,” Itachi remarked, with amusement filled charcoals.
Kisame clenched his jaw, ready to give him his two cents. But before he knew it, Itachi’s form had dissipated into a flock of crows. “A shadow clone… of course.” he rolled his eyes.
From afar he heard Ayame release a sigh that lasted far too long. He followed the noise to the porch, and saw her sitting down on its wooden boards, with a frown placed on her pink lips. And so he decided to pay her a visit.
“Hello” she greeted him. “Let me guess...” he stood against the wall from outside, “You knew I’d come,” he remarked playfully with a grin. But his grin soon faded as he hadn’t received the response of laughter he hoped from the girl.
“I’m beginning to forget what Nature looks like. It’s something we often take for granted when we can see.”
“You don’t miss my face?” Kisame joked, this time earning a laugh from her. “What if I told you I did?” she asked suddenly, taking him off guard. “That’s your best joke by far” he crossed her arms.
