Man, I want some tater tots

"Listen I can't talk right now, tater tot. But thanks for worrying, next time don't walk up to strangers. When you see a lunatic on the floor shaking and whispering weird things. I highly advise not to ask him is he alright. Now see you." I say, quick and brief.

I get ready to walk away, before I hear her say something that gets my attention. "No wonder his girlfriend ran away from him, he won't even listen to me. Guess I won't tell about the girl with blonde hair..."

"Hold on!" I shout, rushing back to her. But she backs up, eyes wide. "Uh, yes?"

"Did you say you saw a girl?? With blonde hair? And no, she wasn't running away from me. Well," I scratch the back of my ear. "I mean, she was."

"I'm just going to leave." She says, trying to walk away slowly.

"Wait, don't. Listen, could you just tell me where she went off too? She doesn't have a car. So she shouldn't have went very far. Please, I'm worried about her." I don't even care if I'm on my knees and literally pleading a little girl out here on the street like I'm some hobo begging for scraps.

"Calm down! Please stand up! I'll tell you." She looks right and left, looking at me in horror. "Just please stand up." She muttered under her breath, squeezing her eyes closed like at any given moment an elephant would show up and trample her down.

I sigh in relief, as I stand up. "Really?"

"You seem like you honestly worried about her. So I will. I'll tell you where she went." And no blackmail? Bargain? Woah, she's a good kid.

"Thanks, um?" I look at the hazel specks in her eyes. She adjusts the moving cat in her arms. "Carla, calm down." She looks back at me, half-smiling. "Oh, my name's Wendy. I'm fourteen and I'll be attending high school next year for the first time!" She's now grinning. She's obviously happy about that.

I nod, "Well thanks again Wendy." She's pretty cute. Adorable little girl.

Wendy looks surprised as she tells me to follow her. I do, and she stops halfway at some house on the steps. "Hey, mom! We have a visitor! Come say hello! He's looking for his girlfriend. I plan on telling him when I saw her." Wendy calls out. I plop down on the stairs, waiting.

"Wendy, what did I say about talking to people you don't know!!?" A woman says, I look at the woman in fright. She's middle-aged looking. Has cropped pink hair, and blood-shot pink eyes. She aims a sandal at Wendy and Wendy dodges it running down the steps and using me as a shield. "I'm sorry, mom! But he looked like he needed help! And he doesn't look dangerous either. Just a little weird, but on the bright side!" She frowned then grinned.

"Excuse me?" I say, feeling insulted. Wendy just looks at me with a shrug, stroking the cat's ears. The cat tries to pry out of her arms, so Wendy places her down.

"What's your name young man? Who are you looking for?" The woman says to me.

"I'm Natsu Dragneel. And I'm looking for Lucy." I cringe at my choice of words. What am I? A detective?

"Oh, god! You're from the family Dragneel! Why I could've never—"

"Oh so you do know him, Mom!?" Wendy lights up with relief.

"Listen, I've got to go. I can't chat right now. Could you feel me where Lucy went?" I'm impatient. I don't want to sit here any longer, as soon as I think of Lucy, I realize I have to move my ass.

"Lucy?" Wendy stares at me in thought. "That must be her name."

"You must be in such a rush. I need to cook dinner soon, so I guess I must hurry as well. But I can't believe I'm face to face with a Dragneel. Would you please say hello to Zeref for me?" She says, but the serious eyes tell me I can't refuse to do so. I grin, "Sure."
