Hwamin walks down the hallway with her arms crossed. Jaewon sees her outside of his classroom, he immediately tells that she’s upset and follows after her.
“What’s wrong?” He asks. She ignores him and continues walking. “Come on. Tell me.” She continues ignoring him. When he doesn’t stop following her, he stands directly in front of her. She tries to get around but he continues to stand in the way.
“Screw you.” She crosses her arms. He only nods, “I’d screw myself too. Got any other insults?” He was used to her teasing and clap backs. They’ve been friends long enough to understand each others complex mood swings and idiotic fighting. “Leave me alone.” Hwamin doesn’t bother looking at him.
“Ah, but that’s where all the problems occur. I can’t leave you alone, it’s not in my vocabulary.” He smiles.
They’ve been friends since preschool. And it was definitely a complex relationship. Hwamin was the only person that could take Jiwon’s verbal abuse, and bipolar mood swings. But he was the only person that could never get offended and he would always pester her. So she never felt annoying. But when they argued, things got ugly. They would yell at each other for hours, and the very next day they would be best friends again. They were both pretty bipolar.
“Yeah. Neither is being smart.” Hwamin smiles. He holds his hand over his heart, pretending to look hurt, “I can't believe you. I'm offended.” He over exaggerates. She flicks his forehead. “Get over yourself.”
Nehwa stands in the distance watching how he managed to get her from being angry to suddenly laughing.
“See, I told you she's a jerk.” Taeri appears behind Nehwa. “And she's a freaking bipolar wreck.” She rolls her eyes.
“What's so bad about Hwamin?” Hyesoo appears behind Taeri.
“What's wrong with her?” Taeri glares at Hyesoo. “She's a condescending bitch who doesn't know how to do anything herself. And she acts all high and mighty when she actually is a weak little peasant girl who is bad a everything.” She continues on with words that shouldn't be resaid. “I fucking hate that bitch!” She yells before walking off.
“Jealousy is a terrible disease.” Jiwon comes out of nowhere with Hwamin right behind him, “Oh, I hope she gets better soon.”Hwamin puts her hand over her mouth as though she’s concerned.
“How long did it take for you two to think of that one? Eighteen years?” A random girl retorts. Hwamin smirks, “I’m sorry, was that to offend me, cause the only thing offending me is your face.”
“Hey! That was mean!” Nehwa jumps in. Hwamin crosses her arms, “Sorry, you must’ve mistaken me for someone who gives a damn.” She turns around to walk away with Jiwon. Nehwa doesn’t care much for rude people so she sure as hell wasn’t going to just stand around. “Keep on talking and maybe you’ll actually say something intelligent!” She yells.
“I know I’m talking like an idiot, but that’s the only language you seem to understand.” She calls back as she walks away. The two laugh about something unheard. Nehwa crosses her arms, “She needs to fight me.” She huffs. The random girl smiles, “Let me join you. My name’s Jisoo by the way.” She extends her hand.
“Good to meet you.” Nehwa smiles accepting her hand shake. “And nice clapbacks.” She tries to shake the awkwardness that floats in the air. Hyesoo stays silent due to being socially awkward. They don't say much since a teacher ushers them out, “Everyone should've left by now, there's been a scheduled video shooting.” She complains. Before she gets them outside she gets called away and trusts them enough to let them leave themselves. Jisoo leaves saying that her parents are waiting while Nehwa and Hyesoo decide to explore and find out more about this ‘video shooting’. A teacher passes by and they get forced into the music room where they hide in a small practice room. They laugh and talk a bit before quieting when they hear someone else enter. The sound of a piano rings out and a familiar tune by Beethoven gets played, except many wrong notes were played. After around an hour of mess ups, she cracks the door open slightly so see who's playing so badly. She's shocked to see Hwamin, but when she looks harder she sees that sitting next to her is a little boy.
“I can't do this! Learning the pianos for wimps!” The little boy yells in frustration. Hwamin smack the back of his head lightly, “Who told you playing the piano was for wimps? Do I look like a wimp to you?” He massages the back of his head. “N..no. But the boys at school think that only a girl should learn the piano…” He crosses his arms. She hits his head again.
“Well screw those boys. If you quit now I won't stop you, but I'm just saying, I'm not a wimp. And quitters, they'll always be wimps.” She crosses her arm mocking him. “You're the only wimp here.” He sticks his tongue out at her, “But you've always been good at everything. So no one ever made fun of you!” She slams her hand down on the piano making a horrifying sound. “Who ever said I was good at everything? Did I ever say that? See, I just made a mistake.” She opens her bag and pulls out a piece of paper. “You see this failing grade?” She shows it to him.
“That says A plus. That's not failing?” He tilts his head confused. Hwamin crumbles the paper up and tosses it into the trash, “It's whatever I say it is. It went from a failing grade to a basketball.” She pats his head.
“It's whatever you say it is. If you say that you're failing then you are, but if you say that you're passing then you are. You are whatever you want to be.” Hwamin smiles. Her watch goes off on her wrist. The boy frowns, “I don't wanna go.” He pouts. “Go on Minho You gotta go home and eat dinner and be sure to talk to your family.” She helps him gather his stuff and waves him goodbye.
“See you later, Minmin!” Minho smiles skipping off. Dr. Lee walks in not soon after, he grabs Hwamin's hair and pulls her to the ground. She screams trying to force his hand away.
“Stop! Stop it! Please!” She yells. Nehwa and Hyesoo look at each other with wide eyes.
“What the fuck am I doing with a daughter who doesn't know anything?!” He spits. “Watch your tone! Who do you think you're talking to?! I told you no more music! Do you want your grades do go down?! You can sleep outside for a month because of this! And you don't even charge! I wanted a smart child not whatever the hell you are!”
“Yah, yah, yah! Calm down, sir!” Jiwon runs in holding Dr. Lee’s arm. Lee leens in and whispers something in her ear before walking away. Jiwon picks her up off the floor, “Are you okay?” He moves her hair out of her face.
“I'm fine.” She wipes her face. They sit in silence for a while before she speaks again. “I’m just gonna go.” She picks her bag up and leaves with her head down. Jiwon waits until she’s left and the door has fully closed, “Idiot.” He whispers, “I’m a fucking idiot!” He yells kicking the piano seat to the ground. Hyesoo jumps at the thud, “This is crazy. Should we tell Taeri?” She whispers. Nehwa quietly closes the door, “Should we? What if something happens?”
