ONLINE FRIENDS

❝I dislike the phrase 'Internet friends,' because it implies that people you know online aren't really your friends, that somehow the friendship is less real or meaningful to you because it happens through Skype or text messages. The measure of a friendship is not its physicality but its significance. Good friendships, online or off, urge us toward empathy; they give us comfort and also pull us out of the prisons of ourselves.❞

-John Green

and a little piece written by boomboomchic on tumblr:

and then they said, looking bewildered, but how did you manage to make any "real" friends online?

she smiled and began

so imagine this. you have a friend, they know everything about you

they're your best friend, you guys cannot be separated

you're practically one soul in two bodies

you both have the same choices

same likes and dislikes

you know each other's life stories

you never spend a day apart

when you're feeling low they brighten up your day

when they're feeling happy you join in their party

its your birthday! so they get you a present

a bad event took place, they pray for you

you spend hours on end discussing utter rubbish

you have the craziest private jokes in the world

you begin wondering how you ever lived without them

you guys watch movies together and crack up at the same scenes

get teary eyed at certain points

and sing along to your favourite songs

chat crazy rubbish in little voice notes

you talk TMI, you bitch and you dance

you enjoy each other's company, share hugs, sometimes even kisses

and now...what if i were to tell you that you share this special, immaculate bond with someone you've never "physically" met

someone you've never "physically" spoken to or seen

someone who is on the other side of the world

someone you got to know "online"

but all the emotions, and the feelings, they're all the same, if not stronger than so called "real" life friendships.

and that's exactly what online friends are...the same as real life ones, only a lot closer at heart and a lot further in distance...unfortunately

although that could be treated as a pro...if they were closer, we would stop valuing them, just as we do not give much importance to the friends and people around us.

online friendships are much more than anyone could ever fathom. its like being separated at birth from your twin, and finally being reunited but you cannot physically meet so you share the joys and smiles virtually, which, is realer than any physical smile.. you feel the warmth, you feel the smile, you feel the love....

so, what's an online friendship you ask? it's everything you have with your real life friends and then some. and you will never know just how much better it is until you actually have one.

she ended with a smile, now reminiscing about all those lovely times.

her friends, now amused.

"Ooh, I want an online friend now" one of them murmured.

she chuckled and thought how naive we all are, we always want what we don't have and don't really appreciate what we do.

although there's no such thing as too many friends.

"Come on you guys, I'll introduce you to some lovely people on the other side of the world" she beamed as she logged into her computer
