"Lenny get help!" Molly coughed as blood streamed from her stomach.
Earlier...
The engine of a car screeched as the key was turned on the vehicle, a excited and energetic Border Collie bounced about as he deliberately tripped the racing children. The youngest named Lucas laughed as his sister Molly collapsed into a puddle, "Lenny!" she laughed as she got up, her dress was drenched but she didn't care. "Wow missy, your not getting in my car like that, go get changed!" her mum ordered in shock. She sighed and ran back inside, Lenny followed with his tail wagging. Molly was his best friend, his human. She quickly changed into a crop top and shorts, "I didn't like that dress anyway," she grinned and chucked it into the washing basket. "Its going to go all mouldy while I'm away anyway," she shrugged and ran back out the door with Lenny by her side. They jumped into the car together and head off on their road trip. "Finally," Lucas gasped in relief. "Where are we going?" Molly asked with confusion from under a fluffing black and white dog who lay over her with his tongue lolling out of the window. "We just have to stop and get something, be right back," her mother stated. "Okay, I'll go for a walk with Lenny so lock the car," she decided, jumping out. She clipped Lenny's leash on and walked around the mall, people watched with curiosity as they past. Their weren't many shops that allow animals. "Pet store!" she cheered and ran inside, she was immediately welcomed inside by the staff. "Well Lenny, I only have $20 so we can't get much, maybe a toy or two," she realized. "That's a nice dog you have there, he must be a lot of work, very energetic and smart," she turned to see a man speaking to her. "Yea, his great, I have a lot of land for him to run around with, I'm hoping to one day buy him a friend, maybe a Kelpie or German Shepherd," she smiled. "I have some puppies I was going to get rid of, uh I think they are Border collie x Kelpie, are you interested?" he asked with a grin. "I'm good, I don't think my parents would appreciate me getting another animal without their permission," she admitted and started to walk away. She grabbed a few toys and went to the front. The man followed behind her, creepily watching. "I said no thankyou, can you please go away?" she nervously turned to the man who stood near her. He didn't say anything and continued along. Molly went into a panic and bolted to the car, "shit its locked!" she realized with regret. "MUM! DAD!" she screamed as they guy sprinted towards her, "why did you say no to me? I was just trying to help," he laughed. "No, your a liar, get away!" she cried. Lenny barked with aggression as he crept closer, "Lenny, stay," she ordered with fear in her eyes. Her parents where no where to be seen, the next thing she knew a gun was being pointed at her. "NOOOO!!!" she started to run, dropping Lenny's leash by accident. She tripped as the bullet had hit her. Lenny turned to him with anger, sprinting towards him, the man shot at him violently, missing every shot, he wasn't accurate at all. Lenny jumped onto him, snarling and biting him while barking in defence. She lay on the ground with sadness, she held her hand over her stomach in pain. A red liquid leaked from her shirt, Lenny stopped and turned to her in realization. The guy was severely injured on the ground, he had broken his arm in the fall, along with deep cuts and wounds from the attack. He padded towards her, sniffing her wound, "Lenny get help!" Molly coughed as blooded streamed from her stomach. He whined in confusion and sadness, he howled to attract attention. Molly's parents raced to the scene in horror, her mother ran forward, sliding next to her and holding her close. "Ring the ambulance Frank!" she screamed, Lucas watched behind them with fright. Lenny walked over to Lucas to comfort him, but wasn't welcomed. "Lenny get away from me!" he yelled with anger, he saw blood dripping from the dogs mouth. "Your a monster!" he accused. Lenny's tail dropped, he tucked it between his legs in confusion. "I didn't do it," he barked. Of course Lucas didn't understand him. He fled under the car and watched Ambulances arrive, police and the public arrived at the scene too. All this was too scary for him, he didn't dare come out, until Molly's body was covered with a black bag and picked up to be placed on a hospital bed, she was gone. Lenny barked, "wait!" he chased the ambulance that took his family away. Everyone was gone, they left him behind. He didn't know what to do, all he had left was the toys he had been brought. He nudged the bag, dragging the toys out of it, he started squeaking one with an anxious whimper. "What do i do now?" he asked himself, he had so many questions. He padded down the road with his favourite one in his mouth, he carried it with him. He found a old shed a few miles away from the mall he had come from. He could have stayed and waited for his family to come back but Molly was his human and by the look on Lucas' face, he wasn't wanted anymore. His ears drooped as he watched cars pass in the distance. It was getting dark, it was late in the afternoon. All he could do was close his eyes and wait for daylight.Morning woke, Lenny opened his eyes to the smell of sausages, he was starving. His stomach lead him to thinking he was going to get an easy meal, he padded across the road, with his tail between his legs. After yesterday he was torn, he distanced himself from humans. He ran over to the barbeque that was unattended. It was his lucky day, he jumped up, onto the table and snatched a huge juicy steak from the plate and fled into the bush. He enjoyed it and made sure it was clear, grabbing the whole strip of sausages and getting out of there.
