Morning arrived, Lenny woke to the soft sounds of chirping birds in the old oak above him. He gazed up at them with his dark hazel eyes with a drousy expression. He edged towards the back door and peered in at the house, "this is what life is like now? locked outside, like a mutt. " He whined in misery, they must have left without him, the other dogs where no where to be seen. Had he been abandoned again? They wouldn't do that would they? his hoped became slim as hour hit him. He rest his chin on the wooden step, with boredom. Suddenly things all came too quickly as a rope hurled round him, attached to a long stick. He looked up at an angry pair of eyes, a pale women gripped onto the object desperatley, "out!" she shoved him along cruely, Lenny fled out the front door with confusion. "LENNY!" A familiar voice called for him, he turned with huge fearful eyes. It was Andy, he was in tears. The dog panted towards him with wariness. "I'm sorry boy, I'm going home early, and you can't stay here," he wailed, holding the dog in his arms. Lenny felt hatred inside him, "why did I trust you?" He thought to himself, loosening himself from the boy. He started to pad away without looking back, the boy was left helplessly on the floor. "I just wanted to help..." he glared at the women who was watching, still holding the device. "That was extremely cruel, he got abandoned and you treat him like a mutt, look at this agile show dog, he just wants love." He sighed, the taxi had arrived to take him to the airport. He left without another word, silently crying a river of hot tears. Lenny was long gone, down the path of forgotten, his tired paws carried him back to the forest, where he found the stale scented fox den he had left off. He curled up once more, laying his head to rest.
"Lenny, wake up!" A loud familiar squeal murmured in his ear. His hazel eyes shot open as he looked up at his furry friend with shock in his eyes, he dragged his tongue down his body, feeling his bones clinging to his skin as he licked the moldy mud stains from his fur. "Are you alright buddy?" His vision became clear, Tahlia had found him, it had been a month since he had seen anyone. He felt useless and had given up as he'd lay in the den all day and night, only peeking out to find scraps, he was thin with misery. The cat limped towards him, she had a collar around her, with registration. "So you chose the pet life huh? Must be nice, free food," he snorted, hardly keeping contact. "It's alright, I missed you," she purred and leaned against him. She run her tail across his snout, Lenny sighed silently as the cat had got herself comfortable next to him. "I missed you too," he finally spoke quietly. "By the looks of it you haven't done too well without me so why don't we go get you some food from my owner?" She mewed. "Humans? No thanks," he snarled with anger. "Wow did they really hurt you that much, you have a murderous look," she sat up and tensely dig her claws into the mossy dirt. "Yea, I tried to give them another chance and I didn't get far," he whined. "I'm sorry, I really wish my luck had been given to you, who wouldn't want you?" She cried. "I'm not a puppy, no one wants me, your an adorable kitten," he explained. "Yea, well it still sucks," she started to pad out of the entrance, expecting him to follow. "I think my time is up," he announced, he just wanted to die. He felt his lunges tightening, as he collapsed with exhaustion. He knew it was too late, Tahlia's ears flattened, as she watched his eyes close, "Lenny, buddy, you can't die, you have so much life left to live," she wailed. Her claws unsheathered with tension, she dug into the ground, trying to take it in. "I'm 5," he gasped, breathing heavily. Suddenly she shot up, racing out of the entrance without explanation. Lenny opened his eyes from the sudden mass movement, drooping his ears as he noticed he was alone. She couldn't take it anymore so she bolted, it was a mean thing to do but she was a cat, selfish and heartless. Her paws carried her back home, she felt ultimate guilt to let him die alone but her mind told her to let him go. She decided to visit the expected corpes tomorrow.
Lenny heaved himself up, trying to drag himself out of the den, the pain rushed through his weakening body as he got upto the entrance, he looked up at the appearing stars, i'll be with you soon Molly," he spoke to the sky. He felt this tingling inside him, as if someone was with him, watching him. He couldn't move to look, he lay on the grass and took his last breath of starvation got the best of him. All was blank as he was at peace with the stars, his spirit lifted, leaving his body to decompose. He felt no pain anymore, light came over him as he felt his paws rest against a fluffy material, "was this heaven?" he asked himself, he could move and felt like himself again. Spirits surrounded him with curiousity and welcome. He searched through the faces for familiarity. But all was blank to him, he padded across the clouds, not daring to look down. All his hope was lost, he didn't know what to do, it was just another life he couldn't escape. "It will wear off, and you will live again, just a matter of weeks," a old dog assured him who lay in front, "i leave tomorrow, you should spend some time with your human, she needs you." "How do you know?" Lenny glanced at him. "She is here," he nudged him to the direction. "Its your only chance you will get to remember her before your memory is wiped," he ended and disappeared. Lenny nervously approached her, feeling guilt. "LENNY!" warm arms curled around him, with joy, for the first time in forever he felt love once more.
