With love, from me to you

I wake up to the sound of music, it's distant and dull, I can't make out the words but I do recognize the song nonetheless. A smile creeps into my lips as I swing my legs off the bed. I put on a robe and tip toe my way downstairs, the music gets louder and I can hear him sing along now.
When I open the door of the kitchen, he's standing there with a pan in his hands. The sound of the door makes him turn around, his face lights up when our eyes meet.
"Good Morning!" He exclaims with a bright smile.
Capture this! is my immediate thought. Capture the way he is able to smile with his eyes, capture how the sun started shining brighter as soon as you saw him, capture how he makes your heart beat faster even after all these years.
"This smells amazing!" I sigh as I sit down.
"Oh, I hope so!" He jokes. "I've been standing in the kitchen for an hour now trying to make these pancakes just the way you love them!"
"The way Linda used to make them." we say at the same time. I look up and smile again.
"These should be ready any minute." He says.
I nod, altough he already turned his back to me.
I can see our tree from where I'm sitting.
A thousand memories rush through my head. The day we planted it, how he had whispered 'This is our tree' into my ear, the specific smell and color of the first leaf that fell, now framed and hanging on our bedroom wall.
My thoughts are interrupted when he puts a black plate with pancakes on the table infront of me.
"I hope they taste good." he says, somewhat shy.
"I'm sure they taste amazing, love." I assure him as I take my first bite. The taste also causes my brain to flash trough thousands of memories, memories that have a bitter taste now, memories of Linda in the kitchen, memories of laughter, memories of pain.
"They taste exactly like she used to make them." I whisper.
"I know." He replies just as silently. He takes my hand and squeezes it for a second. "Oh, by the way" he says as he continues eating his pancakes. "I hope you did not forget that we will have guests over later?"
"No, I remember." I smile at the thought of finally seeing my friends again.
We eat in peaceful silence and after breakfast he returns to the garden, as I go upstairs to get dressed. I want to look my best as I haven't seen my friends in a long while now.
When I walk down the round stairs almost two hours have passed. I walk trough the bright living room into the garden. He is spraying some roses.
"Love?" I call out.
He turns to me. "Yes?"
"Could you maybe help me with the buttons on my back?"
He gets up and I turn around, putting my hair aside. I'm wearing a red dress with flowers on it, the one that she likes so much.
Just as he is done, Frank comes in.
"Sir, your guests have arrived." He announces.
"Cheers." he replies.
"I will go greet them, you put your gloves aside and meet me inside." I say, a sudden flash of excitement running through my body.
I almost run over to the door and fling it open. Instantly I am greeted by a pair of big bright brown eyes. Her long red hair is falling over her blue dress.
"Jane!" I call out as I fall into her arms.
"Luna!" She exclaims as she embraces me into a tight hug.
"Oh, I missed you!" I say. "You will never go with him for this long again!"
"No, I promise." She replies, hugging me tighter.
"Please come inside" I say as I take her hand and walk her to the living room.
"Hello to you too." A voice calls from behind us.
I turn around, a cheeky smile on my lips. "I'm sorry but you took my friend from me. I am mad at you."
"I will have to talk to George then." he replies, with an equally cheeky smile. One perfect McCartney eyebrow risen.
"Paul!" George calls as he steps into the room, the two of them hug then he turns to Jane, who's hand is still in mine.
"Jane!" He walks over and hugs her too, all the while she's till holding my hand. He embraces her in a tight hug and whispers something in her ear that makes her giggle. Jane has always been George's favorite. Everybody knows it, just like everybody knows that he despises Yoko.
"Please do sit down." He smiles.
We sit and I turn to Jane immediately. "How was it? You have to tell me everything!"
I try to remember the last time I saw her. Must have been months! When Paul decided to go on a tour again, she went with him for emotional support.
"It was amazing. You had to be there, Luna!" She replies with the usual excitement in her voice, the kind that makes you smile and feel like you live trough everything she tells you.
She goes on a rant about every good and bad thing about the cities she saw. How she enjoyed Paris, but was bored in Amsterdam. How she forced Paul to visit the Star Club in Hamburg and how that caused mass hysteria.
"Oh we heard about that one in the news!" George remembers with a laugh.
"How was I supposed to know that people would recognize him with a perfect, may I say, disguise. At.Night!"
We all laugh at that. "Love, I was wearing a fake beard and sunglasses. If anything, I was causing people to stare at me!"
Jane pouts at that. "Yeah well atleast you made that day unforgivable for the visitors."
"That is true." Paul agrees. "Unforgivable for them, the locals and the police! I felt like a Beatle again."
George and Paul exchange a knowing look.
"Oh!" Jane exclaims. "I bought the perfect ribbon for your tree! It harmonizes with the flowers. You have to let me put it in there."
"Sounds lovely." I smile and we rise.
As she is knotting the ribbon on our tree, she keeps throwing suspicious looks my way.
"Alright, what is it." I sigh after a while.
"I have news."
"What news?" I ask.
"Big news." She replies with a small smile that starts growing with every passing second.
"So tell me!" I say.
She positions herself infront of me. The smile arrived at her eyes, filling them with love and .. tears?
"Tell me what happend!" I urge her at the sight of tears in her eyes.
She raises her hand. "He asked me." Her hushed words sound like a secret, filled with excitement and fear and love.
"Oh." is all I can get out. I do not know how to put my happiness into words so I hug her instead. "Oh, Jane."
"I know!" She says into my hair.
"Oh, Jane!" I cry out now. "Oh, how marvelous. Oh, how amazing. How happy I am for you!"
I pull away so I can look into her eyes.
"Do not worry." She smiles, while wiping away a tear. "I will have an affair with you."
I start laughing at that, my laughter immediately blends with my cries. More tears rush down my face.
Why I am crying I can not tell. Maybe it is the relief that Paul found happiness after lovely Linda, maybe it is because Jane is so very overjoyed, maybe it is because they both mean so much to me or maybe it is because almost everything touches me lately.
"I am so happy for you." I say, as I reach out and hold her hand. The one with the ring, the one with the golden ring that plays perfectly with her pale skin, the one that blends in with her shiny hair.
"I knew you would be." She says.
"Oh, how marvelous you will look in a wedding dress!"
"Stop it." She wipes away tears. "You will make me cry again."
"Macca!" A voice shouts from behind me. "Will you look at the birds! They are crying, out here!"
I turn around and am faced with an extremely suprised looking George. Paul's face pops up from behind him. "She must have told her." He says knowingly.
"Told her what?" George asks.
"We are getting married." He replies with the same excitement, happiness and fear in his voice just like Jane's.
"That's amazing!" George embraces Paul in a hug. "We must celebrate that."
I smile at him. Celebrating love has always been his favorite thing. "We must." I reply.
George runs inside to call some old friends. "Yes, you must come over to our house. We are celebrating love tonight!"
And sure enough, that night our house is filled with familiar faces.
I see John in a corner, sitting close to a small silhouette. They were in town for a week so we had been lucky to reach them.
I nod at him as he nods back, a knowing smile on his face. Almost as if he's saying 'our Paul finally found the one'
He did. I say in my head. He found the perfect one. He found one that will never let him down, never make him unhappy, never betray him and most importantly never let him sit in silence as she will never stop talking. I smile as I make my way through the crowd of people. Yes, they will be very happy.

Hallo liebe Anna,

Frohe Weihnachten ❤️
