I woke up to the sound of a ringing phone. George groaned next to me. „Who is that?"
„I don't know" I said, although I was sure he had already fallen back asleep.
So I sat up and reached out for it. „'Ello?" I whispered in a fake french accent. Something that was so normal for me I didn't even had to think about it anymore. I had learned my lesson since that one time where I accidentally answered with „Harrison Residence" which lead to screaming at the other line and sure enough our phone did not stop ringing that night. Nor did it stop the next day or the day after that. It got so bad that George unplugged all of our phones and we had to get a new number. Since then I settled with a french accent, which was something all of our friends were doing. A fake accent just was the easiest option here.
„Luna." the voice on the other line dragged me back to the present.
„Pardon? Who's this?" I asked, still holding up my facade.
The name that the other person said was so unexpected that a gasp slipped through my lips. „Yoko." said a weak voice.
No wonder I didn't recognize her, I thought to myself, she barely ever spoke to me in a normal matter.
„Yoko-" I repeated. „What happened?". My mind was already racing through a million worst case scenarios that would explain why she had decided to call us after all those years.
There was movement behind me. I quickly looked over my shoulder and saw that George was turning to me. „Yoko?" he groaned. „What does she want at this time?"
„I'm sorry, I forgot about the time difference." she explained, having heard George's complain.
„Oh well-" I said. „It's okay. But what happened?"
„Is' not okay." George whispered behind me. „That bitch."
„Is John with you?" Yoko asked.
„Uh-no." I replied. „Is he missing?"
„I can't reach him. We had a fight, he left the house and did not come back."
„I'm sure he just needs some time for himself. You know how he can be when he's angry."
„Yes, but that was two days ago."
„Oh..hold on." I turned over to George. „Have you heard from John?"
„Luv, the last time Lennon reached out to me was in 1968." George half mumbled into his pillow.
„Geo doesn't-"
„Why?" George continued. „Did that cunt finally escape 'er golden cage?"
I tried to cover the speaker with my hand but it was too late, I was pretty sure Yoko had heard him.
I glared at George who was sporting a satisfied grin now.
„Well-" I said. „George doesn't know where he is. Maybe Paul knows?"
„I tried calling him." Yoko answered. „He doesn't pick up the phone. I also tried to call Anne-"
„Anna."
„Yeah that one. She doesn't answer as well."
„Well-" I let out a long sigh so I wouldn't get mad at the so Yoko-like disrespect. „I will call Paul the first thing tomorrow morning, I will try to reach Anna as well."
„Thank you." Yoko said. „Goodnight and sorry for waking you up."
„No worries, have a goodnight."
I closed the phone and went back under the covers. George immediately flung his arm around me.
„Is Lennon missing then?"
„Yeah, they had a fight a few days ago and he didn't come back home since then."
„Lucky fella." George chuckled.
„Can you please take this seriously and call people he might be with tomorrow?"
George opened one eye and looked at me, I tried to look back as sternly as I could.
„Ye okay." he groaned.
I nodded, satisfied with my power and fell back asleep.Whatever I had imagined the next morning to be like, it did not turn out to be like that at all.
We were awoken by firm knocks at our bedroom door. Now this alone was weird because the staff knew better than to disturb us in here -unless there is an emergency.
Panic already forming a knot in my throat, I put on my morning gown with shaking hands while George got up and opened the door.
„Sir-" a very distressed looking Frank said. "You have a guest downstairs who refuses to leave."
„Frank, it's six in the morning" George cried out.
„I know, sir. Your guest is very stubborn and refuses to leave and come back another time."
„Bloody hell, it's Lennon 'innit?" George groaned.
„Sir-"
„Jesus son, what is taking ya so long? Just move your arse down 'ere so I can kick it." the voice that was shouting from downstairs clearly belonged to none other than John Winston Lennon.
Despite being incredibly sleep deprived and still a bit shaky from the little panic attack I just lived through, I was so relieved to hear his voice after what felt like a century.
George must have thought the same thing because a hint of a smile crept across his face, he quickly gathered himself though. „This time I'm killing him for sure." he said to nobody in particular.
We quickly changed into our normal clothes and rushed out of our room. I followed George downstairs and was greeted by John, who's grin could not have been bigger and a slim silhouette that was standing behind him.
„Geo-" John said as he walked over to hug George who looked like he might actually punch him.
They hugged for what felt like ten minutes, then it was my turn to get a bear hug from him. „Good morning luv."
„Good morning, John." I said unsure of how to react to his overly positive mood.
„Lennon it's six in the morning, what the fuck are ya doing 'ere and who is that bird?"
„What kind of bullshit buddhist are ya, Geo? Aren't you all supposed to wake up with the sun?" John chuckled. "Oh, and this is May Pang by the way. She doesn't speak english."
„Yes...I do." May replied with a questioning look.
„Oh well, I figured I should go with that since ya haven't said a word to me for the whole morning." John said.
„Maybe that's because you dragged me here?" she turned to me and George. "For the record, I have tried to keep him from coming here but he said it was important and I think you know how impossible it is to stop him from doing something he set his mind on to."
„We don't blame you, luv." George replied softly. „Are you hungry? I will tell Frank to prepare a nice breakfast outside."
„Lovely." John said with a grin. „You do that and I go make a quick phone call." he started to walk but turned around abruptly. „I do have permission to use your phone right, Mr. Harrison sir?" he batted his eyelashes.
George did not say anything, he just glared at John and walked away. I did hear him whisper 'Twat' in the distance, but I also saw his grin. So it was pretty even I would say.
It was only May Pang and me left in the entrance. She seemed to be absolutely uncomfortable so I tried to lighten the mood. „George isn't really mad, he just likes to act tough with John."
She smiled at me knowingly.
„Come let's sit outside. I'm dying to hear the birds wake up, see the sun shine and smell the flowers blossom."
