"Mom, dad, can I talk to you about something? It's kind of a big deal." I asked my parents.

"Sure Mel, what's going on?" my dad looked up from the carrots he was chopping.

"I think you're going to want to sit down for this." they looked at each other with concert and walked with me to the dining table.

"Soo.. you know how I've always wanted to move to California...right?" I was nervous, very extremely nervous. I was picking at the skin around my nails, which I seem to do often.

"What are you trying to say?" My mom asked completely clueless.

"I think it's time I go and do just that, I mean I turned 18 four months ago, don't you think turning 18 should be a step to maturity for everyone?" I was trying my best to say something they would buy.

"Well of course we do Melanie, and yes we have always been telling you to fight to pursue your dreams, to be persistent about the thing you want but..We you really can't put us on the spot like this." my mother wisely said.

"Yeah, I understand, that's fine." I said smiling through my teary eyes as I stood up and started walking towards the stairs.

"This doesn't mean we said no!" my dad yelled after me. I stopped in my tracks and turned around smiling. I sat back down with the biggest smile and looked at them pursuing them to continue talking.

"I mean, do you have a plan? Do you know where you're going to live, what job you are planning to get, who do you even know from there?" My dad kept asking questions.

"Well, I know a girl who lives there, she used to go to my school, but she moved back last year, we get along quite well. She said she wanted to get away from her parents so I could definitely make a deal about living with her." That was a straight up lie, I don't know anyone from LA, I also do not know how rent and bills work, so that might be a problem.

"So you're doing this just to get away from us?" my mom asked curiously. "No mother, I'm not." to be honest, I got annoyed by that.

"Well if that is the case I would be thrilled to meet this girl." my father said smiling.

"Alar, ¿qué estás haciendo?" my mom asked my dad hitting his arm. "Al menos deberíamos darle una oportunidad." my dad answered. "¿Sabes que puedo oírte?" I said annoyed.

In translation that means, "Alar, what are you doing?" "We should at least give it a try" "You know I can hear you guys?". I was born in San Antonio, both of my parents are latino, so yes I am fluent in spanish.

"We are going to take very single thing into consideration, you are going to be moving to LA, but maybe not as soon as you thought." I jumped onto them, hugging them as hard as possible..
