"Fly Away,
The butterflies will take you;
Another day,
And you can be made,
Stronger than and eagle;
Fly Away,
Little one fly away."I heard my mother's voice almost as if she was actually here. Heaven knew she wasn't. I kept replaying her song in my head. Over and over I would play it until I couldn't stand the pain of her memory any more. I drew in a deep breath and sat up, not daring to imagine what chaos awaited the day.
Ever since my father and mother had died, I had been having strange visions from what I presume is my over-active imagination. But sometimes, I feel like it is much more than that. I can't quite place it, but I feel that this is the doing of the feeling.
Any who, I turned my head slightly toward the still pitch-black darkness outside my window. I couldn't see anything, so I climbed out of bed and walked towards it, praying to the Gods that the damage wasn't as bad as I believed. I peeked through the small space in between the curtains and looked at the ground down below. Other than a few extra guards guarding the outside of the perimeter, all seemed normal. I was too awake to go back to sleep, so I decided that I would take a small trek to where the districts were staying, and make sure that my people were comfortable.
As I walked down the hall, I thought about the fact that I was now the Elven ruler. It almost didn't make sense in my mind. I was always used to having my father rule, but now it was I.
Finally, after what seemed like getting lost in the Werewolf castle at least a thousand times, I reached the district hall (that, I decided, is what I shall call it). I entered the large room to see small groups of creatures huddled under blankets and around small fires. Everyone seemed to move their attention to me when I entered. I remained relaxed and spoke calmly.
"Greetings. I was just coming to be sure everyone was comfortable or if anyone needed anything." I received some grimaced looks, as if what had happened was my fault. There were also looks of fright and pure loathing. I decided to ignore the more hateful looks, but instead spoke to those that appeared scared.
"I understand that our situation isn't exactly the best at the moment but please try to remain calm and-" I was cut off by the sudden shouts of angry districts.
"HOW CAN WE REMAIN CALM IF WE COULD DIE AT ANY SECOND?!?"
"WHY SHOULD WE TRUST THE PERSON WHO FOR ALL WE KNOW COULD HAVE STARTED THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?"
The shouts continued, but were soon cut off by a masculine voice from behind me.
"Silence! This is not Queen Eva's fault! She has defended you all with great honor! So be grateful or leave and be exposed to what lies beyond!" Eron had stepped in to my relief. He and I stepped out of the district hall and decided to walk around the castle for a bit. Apparently he couldn't sleep either.
"Thank you, Eron. They won't listen to me. How will I ever be able to rule them?" I eventually asked.
"They will learn to trust you as I have. Give them time, they might just surprise you. And besides, you don't need their consent, you are destined to rule them. It was your father's word of order."
"I suppose you're right. I have really appreciated you. You have been there for me ever since... you know."
"Don't worry about. You have needed someone there for you."
And then, without any warning, Eron leans forward and quickly kisses my lips. I hesitate at first but then except it. Realizing what he must of done, Eron pulls away.
"Eva, I- I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me."
"It's okay... don't worry about it," I reply blushing.
We continue talking as if the kiss hadn't happened in the first place. I'm sure I was blushing violently, but then again I was already a victim of rosacea.
We talked about random topics and tried to avoid think of the chaos that has been aroused over the past week. After a while we both grew hungry so we stopped by the kitchens to pick up a bite to eat.
"Hey, we're okay right?" Said Eron after we ate.
"I suppose so... But of course, that is if you are okay." I smiled and blushed a brilliant red.
"Of course! I am completely fine." He began blushing too.
We eventually took separate paths and I went up to the West Wing to sleep the few hours I had until morning. I climbed back into bed and thought about the small moment that I had shared with Eron. I blushed at the mere thought of our small... kiss. I slowly drifted off into a heavy sleep. I dreamt a marvelous dream of Eron and I growing quite close. It made me happy.
I woke up with, once again, the bright sun shining directly in my eyes. This wouldn't normally bother me, but I was extremely irritable from my lack of sleep. I open my eyes a little more and sat up. I went into shock as I looked into the cold dead eyes of the Undead Representative, a smug look on his face.
" Good morning, your Highness."
