I walked down the hallway, looking for my boyfriend. He was talking to his friends when I saw him. He looked at me and hollered for me to come over. I was looking down fixing my shirt, making sure I looked presentable. He didn’t like when I didn’t look perfect. When I got to him he put his arm around me and went on talking with his friends.

“Jess, why are you looking at Tyler like that?” Jake, my boyfriend, snapped.

   “I-I-I wasn’t. I was daydreaming. I’m sorry,” I stammered.

He rolled his eyes and pulled me around the corner. He made sure to see if anyone was looking.

“You’re MY girlfriend. You don’t touch, talk, or even LOOK at other guys. You got that?” He whispered harshly after he pushed me up against the locker.

I quickly nodded, cowering down slightly, hoping he wouldn’t hurt me in a public place.

“Good,” he kissed me harshly and pulled me back to his friends.

I put a smile back on my face. I didn’t want anyone to worry about me. I had been going out with Jake for a little over seven months. He was the sweetest boyfriend ever in the beginning. It was about three months after we had started dating that he became abusive. We were hanging out at his house for a little while and he got really mad about something I said and he hit me. He told me he was sorry and he didn’t mean it. I forgave him but it started happening over and over again. I wasn’t too worried about it, it had been going on for a while so I was used to it. The only thing I was worried about was if people saw my bruises. I wore long sleeve shirts or jackets most of the time but today I was taking a risk. I was wearing a strapless navy blue polka dotted shirt and my bruises were visible but no one had said anything so far.

“Umm, Jake… I have to get to class…” I said softly.

“I’ll walk you,” he stated firmly grabbing my hand. He squeezed my hand. It was starting to hurt but I said nothing, not wanted to get hurt worse.

He walked me to my math class and let me go. I walked in and quickly found my seat. I was the quiet girl, not having many friends, and reading in my spare time. Until, I started dating Jake. He was on the football team, instantly making him cool. We met through our siblings. My older brother was his older sister’s prom date when they were seniors. We had known each other for three years. We had always been acquaintances, not talking that much but eight months ago he really took interest in me and we quickly started dating.

I looked up when I heard a man’s voice talking.

“Hello class. I’m your new math teacher. My name is Mr. Metler. We aren’t doing much today. Just going to be talking about how the rest of the year will work out,” he went on to talk the rest of the class about how school would work.

I couldn’t help but notice how attractive and young he was. He couldn’t have been more than 25 years old. Our old teacher Mrs. Crapple, had retired due to all of the pestering from students. She was old and nobody liked her. She told us last week that we would be getting a new teacher. She didn’t say anything else about him. I heard him ask if we had any questions and multiple hands raised. I heard all girls ask questions.

Figures. He’s an attractive man and its obvious that the girls would fall all over him.

I heard the bell signaling that class was over. I gathered all my things and walked out of the classroom. Heading straight to my locker. Before I could get there, I ran into someone. Literally. Shoot. Seriously I need to watch where I’m going. I had dropped all of my things.

I mumbled a “Watch where you’re going,” before I had looked at who I ran into.  It was the new math teacher. I could feel the blush rising to my cheeks as he bent down to help me pick up my things.

“Uh…Thanks…Sorry for being rude like that Mr…” I had forgot his name because I had zoned out during his class.

“Mr. Metler. I’m sorry for not watching where I was going,” he said while handing me my songbook. I nodded, said thanks, and walked away before things could get more awkward.

Jake was waiting for me at my locker.

   Great… Shoot me.

“Who was that? You know what I told you earlier!”

“It’s the new math teacher. He ran into me and helped me pick up my books,” I sighed and opened my locker. He rolled his eyes and waited for me to put my stuff in my locker.

“Hurry up. I’m hungry,” He rushed me harshly. I finished and closed my locker. He put his arm around my waist and we walked to the cafeteria.

“Oh, I was thinking about eating in the corridor today. I mean it’s so nice out,” I told him. He rolled his eyes and shrugged.

“I’m eating in the cafeteria. You can eat where you want,” he spat back and walked into the lunchroom.

I turned around and made my way to the corridor. I walked through the double doors and was hit with fresh air. I hurried over to an empty tree and sat down. The sun was bright and hot but the cool wind made the day seem perfect. I grabbed my songbook and water out of my bag. I took a sip of water and read through some of my songs. I glanced up and watched some people come out and some go back inside. I wanted to stay here all day. I saw my friend Allison and she walked over.
