When I get home, mom has our new neighbors sitting in the living room.

“Matt!” She says happily. “This is Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, they came to welcome us.” *she says with a smile, gesturing to our neighbors. “They have a son about your age, what was his name? Er..Garret?”

“Garth.” Mrs.Thompson corrected with a smile. Poor mom, never really good with names. “But hes home right now, working on a song hes writing.” She smiles.

“You can go over if youd like.” Mr.Thompson adds with a smile. “His room is right upstairs, 2nd door on the left.”

“Thanks.” I smile and decide to head over, I go next door and go inside as instructed. I instantly hear a beautiful song being played, so I follow it. I lightly knock on the bedroom door labeled ‘Garth’ and hear the strumming stop.

“Come in!” A voice says from inside, so I open the door.

“Hi.”I say nervously, I smile and he smiles back. That’s a good sign. “Im Matt, we just moved next door and your parents said I could come over.”

“Cool.” He said. “Take a seat.” *he nodded to an empty seat next to him on the bed and I sat. He began playing once more, it damn near put me in a trance. I watched his large hands strum so gracefully, creating one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard. Before I know it he starts singing quietly, I smile. After he finishes he sets the guitar down on its stand.

“I-I really liked that song…it was beautiful!” I said with pure honesty, smiling at him.

“Thanks.” He said smiling, chuckling and even blushing slightly. “I wrote it myself.”

“Amazing. I cant even read notes.” I admitted nervously, chuckling.

“Well then youre just not as awesome as me.” He smirked at me, joking of course. He let out a slight chuckle. “So moving mustve been hard huh? Leaving all your friends…and your girlfriend.”

“Well I would’ve missed my girlfriend…if I had one.” I chuckle a bit. “Or umm..if she was a he.” He stared at me for a moment, looking a bit confused. A lightbulb flickered on above his head, figuratively of course, and he let out a knowing ‘ooohhhh’.

“You too?” He said, shocking me completely. My eyes widened a bit. “Do your parents know?”

“Yeah.” I smile. “Theyre very accepting. You?” I seem to have struck a nerve there, he looked down sadly.

“No umm…theyre…..theyre very homophobic….” I frowed upon hearing this.

“That’s terrible…well I sure hope my mom doesn’t mention that I am…”Thinking of that I quickly take my phone out and text my mom, warning her not to bring it up. “So umm…have you ever had a boyfriend?” I asked, curious.

“Um…not really...Ive erm….never even kissed a guy.” He blushed. “Im too embarrassed that if I do….my parents might somehow find out…you know?”

“I understand.” I say truthfully. “Ive had a few…some nice…others...not.” I chuckled a bit. “You should find one, see for yourself.” He nodded and smiled at me.

“Are you going to Lakeview Public school?” He asked.

“Yup!” I said gleefully, earning a chuckle from him. “You?”

“Nah, I go to Lakeview Prep. Sucks though, I wish I coulda been goin’ to the same school as you, so at least you would know someone.”

“Well I did meet someone else today, earlier in the park. His name is Alan.” I smile at the memory, his gorgeous blonde hair, and those creamy brown eyes. Yummy.

“Wait….Alan…Parker? Long blonde hair? Brown eyes? Asked to borrow your phone just to put his number in it?”

“Yeah! You know him?” I smiled.

“Stay away from him. Hes a bad guy. He just uses guys.”

“…So he is gay?” I ask.

“Well…bi. He uses both. Its sick really, plus hes a complete asshole.” I stared at him in shock and stood up.

“I happen to think hes really cute!” I said, a bit angrily.

“No, Matt I mean…I have a few friends that have dated him. He used all of them. Hes a ‘hit it and quit it’ kind of guy.”

“I just met you and youre already criticizing my taste in guys.” He sighed.

“Im sorry. Really I am. Just….be careful.” He gave me a serious look and I nodded. Just then his parents came in and smiled. They told me my parents wanted me home, I smiled back at them, then to Garth and exited, heading back home.
