"Kiley, are you almost ready?" Dustin texted me for the 56th time. He couldn't come in my house and wait for me like a normal friend would so he had to sit outside and wait. Then I'd have to climb out the window. "Yeah Dustin I'm coming out now." I texted back then threw my phone on my bed. I did a quick glance in the mirror. I curled my hair to make it look much fuller, I had an old pair of converses on with a light pink dress. I got the dress at a garage sale for 50 cents.
"Don't fall." Dustin whispered as I climb out of the window and landed perfectly on the ground "I never fall, don't jinx me!" He smiled and giggled. "You look.... wow." He smirked at me, I rolled my eyes and started to walk toward his car that was parked 2 blocks down to avoid anyone seeing us, "So I'm like ready to get wasted, and maybe even find a girl." I stared at him in complete shock "You? A girlfriend? You've been single for like... your entire life!" He laughed "Yeah, I think I'm gonna have a complete make over next week. Ditch the glasses, get a hair cut. Maybe work out a little bit."
"But I like my nerdy Dustin. Girls are gonna be all over you and I'd have to fight them back." I said smirking at him. "Yeah I doubt that, I just want a nice girl that's all." I nodded understandingly. "Is Justin's house far?" I said getting into the car. Dustin just looked at me and nodded "about 25-30 minutes." Geez, really? How the tell does he get to school, I'd never drive that far willingly. I have to walk far to get to school but I don't really have a choice. In this case with him being Justin Lockhart, he has a choice. I stared out the window and watched as the houses slowly began to get bigger as we started to reach Winsville, my old neighborhood.
"We're here!" Dustin said, but really we weren't there. We were literally in a line about 1 mile or 2 from Justin's house. There was about 100 cars in front of us. There was no way we were gonna get into that party. "Let's just turn around, we can't get in." Dustin shook his head "We'll at least try. The line is moving fast because people are getting rejected, I think only certain people are allowed." I stepped out of the car to see what was going on and Dustin was right, some were getting rejected and some weren't. "Okay, that's why we should just go now. Justin hates me, why would he accept me to go to his party?" Dustin shrugged "Well, he invited me so..." I stared at him "so you're telling me, if you're allowed and I'm not I'm just gonna sit in the car and wait?" He looked at me and smiled, "No, but yes. I just want to go in there for a quick second, it won't take long I promise! I kinda... have a date with a girl... that's the real reason why I wanted to go. I doubt you'll get rejected." So this is why Dustin wants a makeover.
We waited for 45 minutes until we got up to the front, and as I suspected I was rejected. But Dustin got in. His name was on the list while mine? Was not. Dustin insisted on leaving but I told him it was fine and I can sit in the car and wait for an hour. He looked guilty but I eventually shooed him off. The guards at the party did allow us to park in the field but I was strictly told to not leave the car or step on the property or I will be going to jail for trespassing. Me in jail? I wouldn't survive.
So there I was, sitting in an old cold car. No jacket just this little red dress and a pair of converse. I was insanely bored and really didn't know what to do with myself. I opened the door to at least get some fresh air and that's when I heard my favorite song On and On by cartoon. I smiled and started dancing in the car to it, until my body couldn't take it. I got out of the car and continued to dance, feeling the music, letting it consume my body as I danced to my favorite song. As I danced, I traveled, the song ended up and I was right in front of a creek with a huge willow tree. It was beautiful, it's weird to say but it felt like it was speaking to me. The sound of the creek and the swooshing willow tree was just music to my ears.
I laid down on the cold grass and just watched the stars as the willow trees would swoosh and cover a couple stars and quickly recover to its natural state. I smiled and giggled thinking about the times my mom, dad and I would lay and watch the stars and just laugh uncontrollably. I then stopped and was replaced with the present, with me laying here all by myself, no longer with them. I closed my eyes and tried to think hard about the good times.
I was awakened by the sound of someone laying next to me "it's beautiful isn't it?" I jolted up and there was Justin Lockhart laying on the ground, 2 inches from the spot where I was just laying. "I uh, uh, look I'm sorry, I'll go. I'll give you anything just please don't call the police. I was waiting for Dustin and I'm"- "Kiley Kiley slow down. It's fine. Lay." I shook my head "no I should really be going Dustin is probably looking for me". I touched my body everywhere trying to find my phone, crap I left it at home on my bed.
"Trust me, he isn't looking for you. He's in my house on my couch with my cousin. Therefore, you lay here." Justin patted next to him. "But you're guards said, I wasn't allowed to leave the car and if I did I was going to get sued for trespassing." Justin laughed "but I basically own them. You're on my property so when I say lay, you lay. If not then I think I may need to sue you." What a jerk! If one thing doesn't go his way he puts the other person through hell. I instantly laid down next to him and just looked up at the stars. I'm definitely not speaking. "Pretty aren't they?" He asked. I nodded, I felt him eyes resting on my side of my face but I kept my eyes on the stars, where they belonged.
"Why are you here?" I finally said after a long 10 minutes of neither of us speaking. "I live here." I shook my head "no, I mean, why are you here today, right now? You have a party going on and you're not in there." He looked at me and smirked "Well, different reasons." I sat up, "I'm waiting." He pulled me back down so I was laying on my back. "Well, I was bored. You weren't in there and I was looking for you, but I couldn't find you at all. I asked Dustin and he said you were at the party but he was making out with my cousin so he didn't tell me where. So I spent 30 minutes looking for you. So then, I took my guitar and just came out here, I like writing music out here, what about you? Why aren't you at the party I was waiting for you." He turned to me. I continued to stare at the stars and answer "Well, we came and there was a huge line. We got to the guards, they pulled out a list and my name wasn't on there. Dustin's was. I originally had to leave but I had no ride home so they let me stay in the car. He said I wasn't allowed to move I had to stay in the car. But then I had a song playing and I was accidentally started to dance to it and when I got down dancing, this is where I ended up."
He smiled, "You were on a special list. The vip list. They obviously didn't check that list I'm sorry." I'm sorry? Did he really just apologize for his guards not looking at the vip list? "Really? You're sorry? Why am I on the vip list. You hate me. I hate you." He laughed "ahh, Kiley, you know, you're just different." And well That was the last words I heard before I drifted off the sleep.
