Chapter Two

Remember how I said that Maximus was the most nervous of us two? Well I lied, I could care less about starting school, but I can't seem to let go of Maximus' hand to let him go into his classroom.

"Wessy, hey, Wessy. We're in my classroom now." Maximus' voice breaks me out of my thoughts. Seeing him look up at me with those doe eyes I could feel my heart in my throat.

"Look at that, we are buddy." Kneeling down beside him, "Now you are going to have the best day, you'll make lots of friends and we'll go get ice cream on the way home from school!"

His grin spreads from ear to ear, he doesn't even notice the other parents all looking at us, or more specifically me. I knew I should have put my sweater on before coming in here.

"Hello, I don't believe we've met, I'm Miss. Katherine one of the 1st-grade teachers here at Prospect Acadamy. You are?" A tall brown haired woman says while looking at me to Maximus with a smile.

"I'm Maximus Conner and this is my sister Wesley. We're new here."

"Well, it's very nice to meet you both! Maximus I believe you are going to be in my classroom this year, I'm very excited to have you! Why don't you go put your things down with the other kids?"

Maximus looks up at me for approval and I nod while leaning down to give him a hug and kiss, "Knock'em dead kiddo, I love you so much and I'll see you soon okay?"

"I love you too Wessy, I'll see you after school!" Then without even a second glance, he runs off towards a group of kids playing with toys. So much for those nerves.

"Wesley, is it? As I said earlier I am Katherine and I'll be Maximus' teacher for the year. Are your parents going to be picking Maximus up with you? Since Maximus is a new student we have a testing process we'll put him through to gauge his placement in different subjects. Then we'll also be wanting to set up meetings with them so we can explain how the learning process here differs from that of his old school. I have a packet here explaining all of that, I can give it to them this afternoon if that works."

I hate this part. The look that follows what I'm about to say, the way she'll treat not only Maximus but me after I tell her.

"I am Maximus' legal guardian. We don't have a father and our mother died shortly after he was born. Anything concerning him you will be discussing with me, I have to make my way to class but I would be happy to discuss all of this with you when I pick him up." Grabbing the packet from her hand, and avoiding her shocked face and pity eyes I take one last look at Maximus to make sure he's okay and leave.

Deep breath, that was about all the fun I can have for one day. But that wasn't even the beginning.

After stopping by the main office to grab my paperwork I found out by some not so quiet gossipers that I was one of three rogues who had transferred to the high school. I knew before coming here that none of my friends from my old school were following us here. All of their parents had chosen to homeschool them as to get around the law. The only problem was that I couldn't be homeschooled while also homeschooling Maximus. So here we are.

"Why do you think she's a rogue?"

"All those tattoos, no wonder she can't get into a pack."

"How many people do you think she's killed?"

"20 bucks she tries to hook up with Logan before lunch."

"God she just screams-"

"Screams what?" I say as I pop up behind two teeny bobbers before they can finish their sentence. Flashing them a smile with a hint of fang.
