Saving Life

Fire and Ice.

That's what we were called.

We calmed each other done. When one would explode from anger the other would be able to subdue them and everything would calm down. That's why we complemented each other. We could control the other more than others could through the years.

During the many wars that came upon the world we would be separated and lead new lives to the best of our ability. But no matter how many times we find love and think we could lead a normal life it would be taken from us.

For we are immortals.

Our fate was sealed together the moment we first saw each other all those centuries ago. Not wanting to be ruled by the world anymore than we already were, we tried to fight against or tried to connect on our own. That is why we were separated for decades on end. For the day we would inevitably met again it would be love at first sight. And each time it was.

Our decades apart were more in his favor. He had many women and human children. Each new life he created was different. Either he would settle with one women and create a family or go between many to satisfy his every whim. He has had hundreds of women. I've only had two men that I can say I gave my whole heart too. And one is still living.

I never started a family. Knowing that they would not inherit my gift and eventually die one day while I continued on with the life that I wanted to give them was to depressing. I believe that is why I only had the two loves. My second love was tragically taken from me and no matter how much power I had I couldn't save him. The war between immortals and  humans is what took him from me. He knew who I was and he wanted to fight to stop the humans from trying to control us.

His own kind turned against him for siding with me.

When word broke out over the globe that there are immortals with extensive gifts living among them, the humans grew angry. Angry at the fact that they weren't chosen to handle such an amazing gift. The anger soon turned to wonderment. Humans and immortals were able to live peacefully with one another. Learning and filling in the gaps of why we existed. It was all a happy couple of decades. That was until Nicholas.

He was skeptical at this point. Thinking that humans and immortals could live peacefully forever. At this point in his development, I had just buried Devon. The only other man to have won my heart. There was still humans out there, factions if you will, that still held grudges against us. They despised anyone who supported us. The rest of the population had found that it was easier to accept us then to turn against us.

After so many decades at war with one another, to only forgive in the end did not bode well for Nicholas. Many of our brothers and sisters were killed in search of our powers or how to stop us. Some imprisoned, thinking it would be better to not fight and make matters worse for their families.

When the Counsel of Immortals felt an intake of immense magical powers, they grew concerned. This power was something dark.

And old.

There were only at this time a total of 5 Old Ones, the original immortals if you will. They were the first to find out that they could live forever and not age. But to only learn later that they had powers that could change their minds against humanity. After perfecting the art of meditation and control, they were able to counsel others who later bloomed into what they are today.

Nicholas and I are among those five Old Ones.

When the other three and I met for a summit of a new order for humans and immortals a like, that is when we felt it. And we knew that out long sought after peace would come to an end.

For long ago, to save our immortal souls, we had to seal Nicholas's true self away. His power alone was stronger than all four of ours put together. And with me being his soul mate, I only had half of his strength. It did not help in the beginning.

His war against humans started out slowly. So slowly in fact, it took us awhile to figure out it was him. By this point there was no way to stop him. He had reached his full potential, and I couldn't go against him.

Until one day. This one day would soon become the blessed cleansing day to the world. A day to be celebrated by everyone.

The day I found out I was pregnant.

I was having Nicholas's child.

When an immortal is to have another immortal's child, that child would inherit the parents gift and live with them always. For many centuries, Nicholas would not give me the most precious gift, stating that since we eventually depart from one another, would cause to much on the child.

I guess this century was different. What I thought would be the greatest gift I could ever be given, was in fact a power play for him. With his children by his side, his power would double, triple, it would go on and on. The people of the world would be in more danger than ever.

I didn't want that for my child, so I did the only thing I was ever good at. Serving justice.

My powers allowed me to make a specific prison for an individual, be it immortal or human. Over the years we have had some immortals that rebelled and caused harm to others, so I sent them to their own purgatory.

I was heavily pregnant when I finally told the other Old Ones my plan. Knowing that my plan was the only way to save everyone, they got into position.

And I said goodbye to my beloved.

But no without his final words.

"When I get out of here, I will destroy everything you hold dear. Even that child you carry."
