CHAPTER 5

"Good morning, sweetie." A woman with round face with her brown hair cascading her shoulders stood in front of me. Her beautiful eyes smiling at me. I was away from getting a panic attack before everything happened yesterday flashed in my mind. Jake offering his place, meeting his mother and brother, talking at midnight and the kiss on the forhead. There was still the tingling sensation in my cheeks and I bit my lip.

"Morning, Mrs.Adam" I said removing the blanket and sitting up.

"Good that I had one, you doesn't need to brush with your finger, which is almost like not brushing." She said keeping a new toothbrush on the bed side table. "And seriously, call me Annie. I thought we are past the formalities." She said and I nodded my head smiling. She was so sweet.

"Thank you, Annie. It means a lot." I said gratefully and stood up as my feet touched the cold floor.

"Welcome dear, now you may go and take a shower. Your best friend is down, such a lovely girl and she bought clothes for you. Make it quick, we have got some plans." She said and before I could ask her if Jake is still there, are we going to cafe together or should I take the bus she left to kitchen humming a song I never heard.

I took the towel from the bag and walked to his bathroom but I stopped in my tracks when I saw the ancient clock on his white wall. It read 11.30 pm, muffin fudge I'm late and this is the first time. I was about to rush things when I noticed the piece of paper kept under the lamp. It was handwritten, the messy typical scribbling.

Morning, Angry bird.

I'm giving you day-off, so don't worry and I doubt you can work after being awake till five in the morning. And I called Amy, I'm sorry if mom goes crazy or something. See you soon.

I smiled and walked to the bathroom, it was clean and dry. I stripped from my clothes and turned the knob of shower letting the cold water on my body. The water always succeeded in calming me down and cleared my mind to think properly. Mom once said "Seriously, you need to bath else you will be dirty and sweaty, no would want to be your friend, honey." Her words were marked in my mind from then that I always took a shower but no matter how clean I was, people stayed away.

My mom was beautiful as dirty blond hair framed her face with her eyes twinkling whenever she see stars. She was the queen bee of her school but was loved by everyone because she had a heart of gold. She was perfect then why did death had to take her away. Everyone loved her but they hated me because I was the cause for her death.

I shivered as the water turned more cold. When I was done I draped the towel around and walked to the room after making sure the door was closed. I changed into my red hoodie and black jeans. I put the beanie after running a comb through my dark brown wavy hair and took my bag before running down the stairs with my white converse in my hands. I stopped on my way to kitchen when I heard Amy and Annie talking.

"He sure didn't deserve it." Amy said as she gazed at her new manicured nails.

"Yeah, I know sweety but that's how life works. I cried at the moment not able to take his death. He didn't deserve it but the person who deserve it the least have to go through terrible things." Annie said twirling her hair in between her fingers. She looked sad and I felt bad for her, she doesn't even know whether her husband is alive or not.

I cleared my throat to let them know my presence. They both looked at me and smiled. Amy came and kissed my cheek before wrapping her arms around me. She is my best friend, my sister and my guide in the dark world. There were days when I refused to go to school but she would turn up at my home and drag me along with her. She would cry with me and watch movie at three in the morning. She was the best thing that happened to me.
