Ronin paused and my heart skipped a beat. As I reached a hand forward hesitantly, he collapsed into a crumpled pile. I let out a horrified gasp and cradled his face in my hands. His breath was too shallow.
"Oh no..." I gasped as all of the air left me,"Help!" I yelled out, rushing towards the door. Before I made it to the door, Alex burst through it. She grasped my shoulder with one hand, whereas the other rested against my upper chest. The iciness seeped through my clothes.
"Dec, you ok? What happened?" While she was talking, an overwhelming panic boiled up inside me as the cold got colder. I noticed the weight of her hand lift and looked down to see it half sunk within my abdomen.
Suddenly an unbearable fear took hold of my mind.
"Stop! Don't take it! Give it back!" I yelled out and shoved Alex away. Her hand was pulled from a bright ring that formed and as her hand escaped, I stumbled backwards, hyperventilating.
To my surprise, I was caught by Elliott. I grasped my chest, unsure of what I just said and making sure that "it" was still there.
"Are you alright, Lethallin?" He asked quickly. As I calmed, I nodded. Alex walked over to me and hugged me.
"That was completely insensitive of me. Sorry about that, Princess." She said softly.
"What do you mean? What was that?" I asked.
"I'll explain when you're a little calmer. Hey Elliott, you doing ok?" She asked. Ronin laughed and bared his teeth at her. She stepped back, holding her hand up, palm facing towards him. Ronin growled in response.
"Do not try those hieroglyphs on me. I am not phased by their power!" He hissed.
"Chill out, mate. Listen, I need to talk to Elliott." She told him. Ronin straightened as he took in a deep gasp of air. His pupils returned to normal. He stumbled and I caught him.
"Grezk.. Nellesv... Oh, that's right. I forgot for a moment that you two cannot understand much Osrocan." He chuckled.
"Alex, what do you need?"
They went outside while I took a seat in a corner and sank deep into thought. My thoughts were broken by the mention of souls later on.
"Really?"
"That's the window to their souls. It's how they pick their mates. If you want to court her, take a fragment."
"Of... wait, will that not hurt?"
"One fragment will always come loose when the right person enters. Her panic showed me that clearly I'm not the right one. Kinda sucks, but I guess I still have Michelle. That made the choice pretty easy."
"So what should I do?"
My attention was gasped by my heart pounding in my ears. Why was there suddenly so much fear inside me again? I hugged my knees as the terror rose. Suddenly everything went dark.
When I awoke, I was on the second floor of the cottage. Groggily, I stood and lugged myself towards the ladder. I paused at the sound of voices beneath me.
"With all due respect, intercourse yourself." I heard Elliott hiss at Kaylum.
"What?"
"Fuck you." He responded.
"It was simply a self defense mechanism, you pest." He growled.
"My culture is more rich then your genocidal past, you useless Beneath Crawler!" Elliott responded with a deep, guttural growl. Then I head a familiar, haunting thud and the grunt that followed.
