Chapter 1: SERENITY

I woke blinded by the sunlight shining in through the velvet curtains in my room, and sat up with a start as I heard a knock on my door,"May I come in?" Seddrick asked as he stepped ghost like through the door. "Well aren't you being polite today." I said with a smile.Seddrick is my best friend, loyal sorcerer, and has fought with me side-by-side in many battles."Well, it is your birthday," he said pulling a small ruby in crested box from his twilight cloak, "Also, I happened to be by the Market, and found this in stock." he said, placing the box on the end table by my bed. He sat at the foot of my bed, and stared at me until I said, "Hey, how 'bout you go to the library, and I'll meet you there after breakfeast, kay?" starting to feel hungry.He stared at me with his catlike amber eyes- that I love so much-one second more then said, "I'll meet you there," and went to the nearest wall and added quietly, "My princess." then phased through the wall, leaving me in silence.I had completely forgotten how the people of Arona's Magisry- or Arona's Magic in English- would take a birthday, let alone mine.They celebrate with parades of sorcerers, tournaments of swords, fire and a toast, to surviving war.But I was turning twelve, and last year their queen Seleana Huther had been vanquished by Yugar Shade at the age of forty-one, the youngest age of an elf queen.We were in a battlefield of the fallen.

Corspes of elves, humans, and opponents littered the ground we fought on. Then I heard a scream, I ran to where it sounded, and there in the city square stood Yugar with his sword spearing through the queen's chest.

He stood laughing at the queen, his orc face forming a wicked grin."You worthless slob, you can't even fight. You're untrained, young, and worthless. I almost feel sorry for you." he said, and he kicked Seleana in the ribs making her cry out in pain. I charged straight, thrusting my sword a fraction of a second too late at the spot where Yugar's heart stood, but he had teleported. Rage filled my mind, and his laughs rang in my ears as I looked down at the once almighty elven queen.Tears welled in my sorrow filled eyes, she whispered in a voice so calm.. it seemed she wasn't even close to death."Serenity, come... I have one last command for you..."I knelt down, "What is it my queen?" I asked in a voice so hoarse from battle cries and spells.Her translucent eyes seemed to grow wider, "Serenity, I want you, and only you to rule my kingdom, my people... You hold the key to rule Wengarium..." a single tear rolled down her cheek, "It is up to you, Serenity.".. The last word.. she said in dying breath.. was my name.
