I stood at the bus-stop, my feet stomping against the icey ground in a attempt to get some heat circulating through my legs. My hands, even though they were covered in my thick, green, mittens, were shoved in my jackets orange pockets.
"KYLEEEEE!" I heard my friend yell as he ran toward me, grinning.
"STAAAAANN!" I yelled back, turning toward him and pointing as he ran nearer.
"KYLLLEEEE!"
"STAAAAANN!"
"KYLLLLEEE!"
"Would you guys shut the hell up?!" Our other friend, Cartman yelled at us both, also trudging toward the bus stop to wait with us, his hands shoved in his jacket pockets, watching his feet as he walked.
Me and Stan just laughed. It had been a whole two months since I had last seen my best friend Stan. Me and my parents went to California for the summer. Now we're back, just in time for the first day of ninth grade. Joy.
"Hey, dude. " Stan said, coming to stand beside me.
"Hey." I said back, now concentrating on warming my hands by moving my fingers around in my gloves.
Eventually, our friend Kenny came trudging up to us, his orange jacket and jeans covered in white snow. He had ditched the giant, orange parka he used to wear, back in seventh grade. and he wasn't as quiet as he used to be, too. I guess, we all kinda changed since we started highschool.
We stood there, silently, too cold to really talk, untill the bus rolled up and stopped in the street, in front of the bus stop. We all climbed on. I stepped over peoples legs that were outstretched in the aisle and made my way to the back of the bus and sat down. I didn't see where Cartman sat and Stan sat with Wendy, toward the front. I looked up in time to watch Kenny plop down on the bus seat beside me.
"Hey." I greeted, pulling my hands out of my pockets and resting them on my knees.
"Hi." he replied, leaning his head on the back of the seat, his hands in his jacket pockets and one leg bent, the other outstretched in the aisle.
I got the feeling he didn't want to talk and kept quiet for a while before trying again.
"Whatcha do this summer?.." I asked him, hesitantly. Why was I acting so scared of Kenny? I asked myself, thinking I was acting stupid.
"Same shit I do every summer. " He shrugged, watching out the window of the seat beside ours, which wasnt occupied. For a fearfull moment, I thought he was gonna get up and sit over there.
I didn't know what to say so I pulled my iPod out and stuck my earbuds in, without really listening to anything for the last ten minutes of the busride. When the bus came to a hault just outside of Southparks only highschool, Southpark high and we all filed out. I stopped outside the bus doors and pulled my schedule out of my pocket, uncrumpling it, when someone walked by and knocked me into the side of the bus.
"Ow?" I rubbed the back of my head and glared at the person who had bumped into me as they walked away. I watched as Kenny got off the bus and quickly caught up so I could follow him inside.
We didn't really say anything, just walked. Remembering we might not have the same homeroom, I quickly spun myself around and into the correct room. I chose a desk in the back and sat down, sliding my bookbag off my shoulder and onto the floor beside me. I felt heat rise into my cheekbones and hoped Kenny hadnt seen me almost walk into the wrong classroom. I kept quiet, only answering when my name was called on roll call, to avoid any possible conversation.
Eventually, the bell rang and I grabbed my bag again, waiting untill everbody was out of the classroom before walking out and going to my first period class, which was English in room 500. When I got there, I did the same thing and sat in the back. I pulled my ipod out again and listened to music this time as more people filed in and took their seats. I only looked up when I heard someone sit in the seat beside me. It was Kenny, ironically. I still felt as though I annoyed him so I didn't say anything. He looked over me at my ipod screen. Feeling suddenly self conscience about my choice of music, I switched to a different song, causing him to blink as my fingers moved quickly to swipe across the screen.
