I scanned the list of chips Claire had handed me and continued down the aisle, grabbing them as needed. Finally, I reached the end and turned quickly around the corner, ready to meet up with Nicki and Claire. However, I slammed straight into some random guy who I'm pretty sure goes to my school.
"Sorry," he said, looking at me oddly. "Claire? But weren't you-"
Hoping to end the awkwardness, I quickly explained, "Claire is my twin sister, I'm Amalia."
He nodded, understanding. "Oh cool. But, um, tell Claire I said text me later, okay? She had to leave and find you."
I suddenly felt disappointed, though I don't know why. I didn't like this guy...did I? I shook my head, clearing my thoughts. "Sure. Um, who do I say that's from?"
"Drew," he said with a wink, "now gotta go. Nice meeting you-"
"Amalia." I answered his unasked question, and turned and walked away, eager to find Claire and Nicki. I didn't even know Drew, so why would I feel...well...a crush? But never mind that. I made it to the front of the store and quickly spotted Nicki and a very happy looking Claire, who was excitedly telling Nicki something.
"-and so then, he said see you around! Like he was so obviously flirting!" Claire squealed.
"Who?" I asked, a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"Drew Meyers!" she practically sang.
"Oh, speaking of him, I have a message," I said miserably. Just my luck to like a guy who so obviously liked Claire- and she liked him back! "Drew said for you to text him."
"What?" Nicki, who had been silent during Claire's story and my interjection, finally cut in. "Claire, he so totally likes you!"
"I know!" she replied, as we checked out our items at the counter. "Isn't it great?"
"Sure," I said, dejectedly putting things into bags.
"What's wrong?" Nicki questioned.
"Nothing," I said, putting a happy face on. "Just worried about the party."
"It'll be great!" the joyous Claire exclaimed.
"Okay," I replied, picking up our bags and starting to walk out, Claire and Nicki chattering excitedly the whole walk home.
