One day in 1957, a man stopped at the side of a road in Philadelphia only to discover a box laying abandoned with a blanket left inside it. Much to his horrific discovery was a dead body of a little boy wrapped inside the blanket in the box. He immediately reported to the local police department, disturbed, and had them look into the case.
An autopsy was performed on the little boy but they found nothing that could lead to more of the hidden story behind his death. But it could be quickly assumed that he was murdered as he was wrapped away and stuffed in a box with bruises marked all over his body. They also found an L-shaped scar under his chin, but other than that, nothing led to evidence of who murdered this boy and when it happened. The boy was estimated to be anywhere between 3-7 years old.
To receive further clarity and information on the boy, the deputy decided to have him get a postmortem picture taken to make him a bit more identifiable. His photo was shown everywhere in the state, especially on people's water bills, so someone out there can claim something about the boy. Especially hoping that someone could claim he was their son and bring closure. No one ever did.
The police tried again with a forensic artist who was skilled in sketching realistic human figures. He looked into the photos and body of the boy and found long strands of his hair were chopped off inside the box. With this investigation, he made a theory that possibly this boy was dressed as a girl, hence why his hair was long and his eyebrows were plucked and shaped. And in order to make him identifiable again, the artist drew a picture of what he would have looked like if he were to be dressed like a girl with long hair. They sent out the depiction to the public hoping more people would recognize him. Nothing again... No one came out to give evidence that led to any clues or identify this little boy.
His case still remains open to this day. The story behind the "Unknown Child" has been lost for 60 years...
