"... Bow and Arrow and throwing knives!" I finally decide after thinking about it for over ten minutes.
"Good choice. Now we'll start with your bow. Do you know anything about shooting?"
"I grew up shooting a bow. I know a lot about the technique and aiming." I said rather smugly. "I'd say I'm a pretty good shot but, I don't want to brag." I gave him a smirk.
"Alright then, let's go outside and you can show me." He said motioning to the stairs.
I hate myself for this but he's so attractive. I've only known him for all of a couple hours and I'm already falling head over heals for him. Maybe it's the markings on his face or that he's here to protect me. Whatever it is when I look at him it feels so familiar. Like he's been somewhere I'm supposed to be. I'll never admit that though. Ever."Shoot at that target. Prove you're as good as you say. And if you are, we can move back to your powers." He pointed at a target at least a 60 yards away.
"Okay!" I shoot 10 of my arrows and every one of them hits the bullseye. I give him a look of confidence before I walk away to retrieve my arrows.
"Jesus Christ woman! Thats was incredible! I've never seen anything like it!" He says as he follows behind me.
"I told you I knew what I was doing. Now can we work on my water skills?" I turned to face him after placing my arrows back into my quiver.
"I want to test your fire skills first. Those are often the most useful. Especially against Red."
He stacked some sticks in a pyramid shape and placed rocks around it in a perfect circle. But he didn't do this with his hands. He stayed in one place and simply guided the objects with a wave of his finger. "Now start us a fire." He said looking at me.
"How!?" I asked flustered by not knowing how to even begin.
"Extend your arm out in-front of you with your hand open and think about the fire." He said demonstrating the arm movement.
I did as he told me and to my surprise a stream of fire came flying out of my hand onto the sticks and started a perfect little camp fire. The minute I stopped thinking about the fire in my hand it stopped. "I can't believe I just did that!" I exclaimed.
"That was great! Now put it out." He said.
"Okay I got this!" I put my arm out the same way I had before and thought about water instead. It worked. I put out the fire just as fast as I had started it. "This is easier than I thought." I was proud. I felt stronger than ever. I was finally special. If only mom could see me now. Oh how proud she would be.
"You okay?" He asked with a concerned look.
"Oh yeah I'm fine. I just... nevermind. I'm okay." I didn't want to be vulnerable. I didn't want to tell him anything that would show weakness. Not yet anyway.
"Are you sure? I know you're not really okay. I'm not going to push you to talk. But I'm hear to listen." He said gently. "We can call it quits for tonight. I'll make us some super. What would you like? I have steak or I can make some soup."
"Steak is okay." I said snapping out of my thoughts.
I followed him back into the cabin and sat at the table while he cooked. He placed a plate with steak and potatoes on it in front of me and sat down across the table.
"Thank you." I say digging in, forgetting all my manners.
