SILENCE. THAT WAS ALL there was during the ride back the hotel. All 3 of them stayed quiet, especially Alicia. She was in her own world. The tension between Nita and Paulo was so thick. Nita didn't know what to say, Paulo didn't want to say anything-he was hurt. He just got rejected in front of the whole world-live. Anyone and everyone would re-watch it. That was all that would be talked about in the month of December.

Nita was humiliated. As if she wasn't already too talked about. This would make headlines, she was sure. Nita thought about what just happened, did she just mess everything up? She was sure as hell this would officially ruin the relationship she and Paulo currently had. It would never be the same anymore, oh did Nita start regretting that she had ever met Paulo in this very moment.

This wasn't suppose to happen. Why did Paulo have to ask her our? Especially in front of everyone. Nita bet that Paulo didn't any embarrassment, he was a professional footballer that had just won the best award a player could receive. He was probably the happiest person on planet right now.

That was false. Of course Paulo was extremely happy that he had just gotten his 1st Ballon D'or. But Nita rejected him, he thought they would've made a great couple. He thought maybe she was the one. But he was wrong, maybe he'd go back to Antonella.

They arrived back to the hotel, Nita quietly got out. Paulo and his mother followed her. Alicia finally spoke up to try to lighten up the mood. "I'm going to go out with some of my friends. Didn't you say that you made late reservations, Paulo?" Paulo had made reservations for 10:30 p.m at this fancy restaurant.

Paulo shook his head. "I'm pretty tired, madre. I'm sure Nita is too."

Nita nodded, "I am," she mumbled.

Alicia nodded her head. "I'll see you two in the morning," she said and went her own way, leaving Paulo and Nita to walk to the elevator. It was still silent, Nita wanted to apologize but she didn't know how and if it was even the right time to.

Paulo even wanted to apologize. He was sorry for putting her on the spot and felt extremely bad, Paulo thought maybe that was why she said no. He should've asked her in private, why was he so dumb? It was too early too, only 3 months they've known each other. Oh goodness, Paulo did mess up, extremely.

"Sorry," both Nita and Paulo said at the same time. They both chuckled, "No, I'm really sorry," Paulo admitted. The tension suddenly went away, the air between them was light.

Nita shook her head. "No, I'm sorry. It's just, I just got out of a relationship last month and-I don't know, I just don't think I'm ready to date you, yet. Hopefully it'll happen in the future, but not right now. I'm sorry for embarrassing you up there."

"It's fine, I understand. And plus, it's not like we're anything in particular. You're just carrying my child. That's all," Paulo shrugged.

Nita gave him a small smile. "Yeah," she said, quietly.

*

Nita's mother, Regina, came to Turin to pick up her daughter from Paulo's place. Nita had asked Regina instead of Paulo to drop her off because she didn't want to be in a car with him alone for 4 hours- she also felt bad for all the times she made him drive her home. Paulo insisted on driving her home but her mother was already on her way.

Regina looked at her daughter as she entered the C-Class Mercedes she bought her with ex-husband's money, "What?" Nita asked, annoyed. Her mother was always like this, even at 20 years old.

"Why did you say no to Paulo, Nita?" she started but Nita spoke.

Nita rolled her eyes. "Here we go again," she groaned.

Her mother shook her head. "No, you shut up. I'm going to give you real mother talk, okay?" she asked, Nita rolled her eyes and nodded.

"Okay, but you know I can handle myself, madre," Nita said but Regina started again.

"Why did you say no to him? I know it's only been 3 months that you two have known each other, but if you had said yes then you would've gotten to know Paulo even better and have a healthy relationship. It would've been great for not just two but for your child you're going to have in 5 months! It's not healthy for your child to have parents that aren't together. And you know that. Do you want Paulo to leave like your father? Do you want your child to act like they don't need a father and are fine? I sure don't want that for you, Nita."

Regina then started to drive home. Nita looked out the window so her mother wouldn't see her watery eyes. She didn't want Paulo to leave her and her child, she didn't want her child to be raised just like Nita. Why didn't Nita just say yes?
