We began the walk to the no man's land, and as we did so, Jason seemed to act, different. She started to seem to space out and get paranoid thinking there was something creeping behind us.
"It's so close I can hear it, we're both going to die here, this isn't really happening, is it Unie-" She was mumbling to her self the whole time we walked in the no man's land.
"Jason, you alright? You seem to be talking now." I asked, now really worried that she would completely break down and run away.
She seemed to pause for a moment, look at me, and looked confused. Whatever was going on, it made me start to feel like I was hearing things.
"Kiri you alright there?" Danny asked seemed to not have heard anything come from Jason. He was stuffing a flare into his pocket, I don't know why.
"I think this might have been a bad idea, wanna take Jason back and then do this?" I asked as we reached a point where we could see plague doctors flying out of what we assumed would be their main base, the hospital they were originally made in.
"Kiri!" Mell snapped back to see me, "We have made it this far in "if you want to take her back, go right the fuck ahead, but I want to go explore here," She seemed even more timid than normal.
"Look, guys, fighting over this won't fix it, I see a house up ahead, we can hide there and then discuss what we are to do with her." Danny, with his calm, convincing voice, made us all at least a little more at ease.
We took his advice and went to a house that was at the edge of a small town in the suburbs of the city. When we got in we put Jason over on one of the beds to pace around and think in a different room than us.
"That was a bad idea to keep her Kiri," Mell said looking to see if Jason could hear us. "She'll be nothing but trouble."
"Why can't you just let her be with us-"
"Because I care about us all living and getting to the next day, but with her here she could be a danger to us all." She said it in what felt like a sassy tone at first but quickly turned to what felt like a desperate call to me to scrap Jason, and it was quite convincing, to me.
"Mell you're being quite irrational about this right now," Danny said just wanting to get this over and to get home. "We can leave her here, for now, go search the place, come back, get her, and go home."
We debated for a few moments before we heard Jason stop stamping around, she went completely silent, except for a sharp noise, cutting through the air like knives. "Wha-" before I could get a single word out Jason shut me up by slapping me, followed by her sneaking around for a place to hide. We all thought she had heard a plague doctor or something that was just broken, or one was scratching at something, how wrong we were.
After what felt like hours of waiting, while the noise got louder, the noise became more clear to us before it got to us what was going on. It was eight legs slamming into the ground, its arm was screaming against the walls that it scratched. I slowly crawled out to look for it, as I looked, I saw turned around and saw a small red eye creep away from the window. I ducked down and went back to the rest.
"Guys we need to GTFO NOW." I started pulling them out of their hiding places.
As we got Danny out, A cold shiver swarmed my back, I felt a claw creep up my back, slicing the wall as it tried to stab it into me. I jumped forwards as it reached my shoulder blades, yelling at everyone to run for it, as we did, I quickly noticed that the eye that I saw before was around every corner, looking in, watching our every move. I could hear the creature breaking the walls, trying to get us into its reach by any means necessary, the walls weren't going to last very long. I noticed a are in which the creature wasn't looking and pointed everyone to make their way there, making sure to not alert the creature. when we escaped the building from a window that was open we could see the entire creature as it broke down the building searching for us, it was a long centipede-like creature with 8 legs. The creature was wrapped almost completely around the building, searching with 4 long, scissor-like hands. It had 4 eyes that were attached to the main body by long wires that ran from the head to the eyes, they glowed a deep red when it was searching for us. The main body of it was segmented, and from what I could tell, was stretching out to try to wrap around the house. Its body was covered in a hexagonal pattern, in the middle of one of the hexagons was its mouth, a low scratching noise could be heard from it.
When the building went down it stopped and started looking, quickly, it knew we weren't there anymore. We tried to hide behind one of the building, but somehow, it noticed us. When it did its eyes turned from a red color to a deep blue, it wasn't going to let us go.
"Get out of here, I'll distract it long enough!" Danny yelled as he pulled out a flare and lit it, screaming as he did it.
The creature took large displeasure to this, for a moment it stood still, followed by a high pitched scream that echoed through the land. As we started to run from them back to the base camp, we heard multiple of the screams coming from all direction, except forwards, outside of the no man's land. I looked back to see Danny running into a house as he threw the flare to distract them while he escaped through the back of the house. He caught up to us in no time, must have been the adrenaline.
"Go go go go go!" He yelled as we escaped the hell that those, those things live in.
"Damn Danny, nice juke back there," I smirked at him, but he looked like he was about to drop from just about losing every last inch of his soul running from them, so we carried him the rest of the way home.
When we got back it was early dusk, we were all laying down, panting like dogs. Everyone except Jason, she just sat in the corner, and for a moment I thought she was talking again, but I got the thought out of my head because that is completely impossible. Altough I knew she couldn't talk, nobody else could at the time, so who was it?
