When morning hit, I woke up before everyone else, everyone else except Jason, she seemed content with watching out the window.
"There is nothing out there you know," I said walking to go make breakfast for everyone.
She looked over at me, made a shrug, and went back to looking out the window.
"What would you like for breakfast? Yesterday we found a lot of food a dismantled grocery store, so it's my treat, besides, you're new to our group, I want you to have a great fir- second impression of us." I smiled as I waited for her to respond.
She pulled out another piece of paper and began to draw. It was a surprisingly detailed drawing of some pancakes with maple syrup dripping off the side, impressive for the 7 seconds it took her to do it.
"Pancakes?" I asked she nodded.
I looked through the cabinets and produced the ingredients. "We have everything we need, wanna help make them?" I grabbed a whisk and started putting the ingredients in a bowl.
She seemed to hesitate for a moment, but quickly ran over, she looked like she didn't even know what cooking was.
"This your first time cooking?" I asked laughing, only to be responded with a confused glance. "Wait, do you actually not know what cooking is?" (First, she has weird robotic parts coming out her back, and now she doesn't know what coking is. What happened to you.) I wanted to ask, but I couldn't think of a way to make it sound less an insult and more a question. I pulled out a package of beef, only for her to respond by dropping the bowl she was stirring, somehow the bowl didn't break, and dashed away in a wave of fear I saw flush her entire body. As she stumbled a few more paces, now on the other side of the room bumped into Mell, who had been walking down the stairs, confused as to the causation of the noise.
"What could possibly be happening here?" Mell seemed to be completely unphased physically by Jason bumping into her, just completely pissed off now. "Kiri, you better have an explanation for this." Her hair started to settle down into its long flowing self, going all the way down to the floor.
As I looked from Jason to Mell, all I saw was just the hatred Mell was gaining for Jason. "Also, why is SHE still here?" She acted like she didn't even see Jason enter the house at all last night, then I realized, she didn't, she fell asleep before I even got in the house.
"Look, Mell, can she just-"
"NO! Absolutely not, for all we know she could just be a trap set up by the plague doctors, to trick people into letting her in, and furthermore, why in the world does she have that stupid leather over her mouth-" As Mell said that Jason got off of Mell, turned around and punched her in the arm.
Jason then proceeded to write on paper (I'm not a trap, you stupid bitch) Jason smirked as she had stopped focusing about her fearing the meat and more about just hatting Mell.
"Ladies can you both just calm down-"
"No, STFU Kiri" Mell snapped as she started to get into a fighting stance facing Jason. Jason followed Mell by getting into her own fighting pose.
As they started to fight with each other, Danny walked down, took one look at me and at The two girls fighting, and slowly walked back up the stairs, I walked after him.
"Danny," I said grabbing the door before he closed it on me. "Can I talk to you, you seem like the only normal one here next to me." He turned around and opened the door.
He sighed deeply, "Look, I like that we have another person in our team, but I just don't think she'll be a good person to have, I think that while she was there, she might have been messed up in the mind. If she's not, then we can keep her." Danny said I could see the bags under his eyes from the nights that he spends watching for plague doctors.
We have a system for watching for the plague doctors, but whenever it's Danny's turn he refuses to let anyone else watch for the rest of the night. I always feel bad for him.
"Danny, please just give her a few days, if she gets us killed, it's just a quicker release from this world to the next," I said looking Danny straight in his eyes, which was very hard due to his very high stature.
He looked half asleep as he spoke to me. "Fine, I'll give her the next couple days to prove she's not a complete nuisance. But so far I think not." He looked over at the fight happening downstairs.
"Ok, that fight down there was Mell's fight, she was the one insulting her," I smirked at him who was just starting, trying to wake up from the nights of no rest.
"Is there at least breakfast?" He said slowly walking down the stairs.
I ran past him and picked up the bowl from the ground. "Not done yet, but it's almost ready." I was sweating nervously.
"Yes and all of a sudden you just have a bowl that has pancake batter in it out of nowhere"
Danny looked at the bowl and back at me."Heh, well I was baking, but then she dropped the bowl and started fighting with Mell." Him mentioning the bowl didn't make me any less nerve-racked. "Look, after we eat, we're heading out again, so I thought a nice breakfast would be good for us all-"
"You just wanna impress Jason, don't you" A grin started to cover his bland face.
"Wha- NO! SHUT UP!" I ran up and started to hit him in the chest.
He was completely unphased by me. "My god, it's like being pet on the head by a kitten," He said looking down at me. "I just want to pet you like a cat." He smiled for the first time in a while.
I wanted to protest it, but I knew that I looked like a cat with my hair covering my eyes. All I did was make a soft purring noise. He proceeded to go over to the couch as I made food, making sure as to not make any of the meat, as to not absolutely terrify Jason again and cause more of a ruckus.
"Food is served" We all ate and got ready for the day of exploration.
That day we decided we should take a bit of time to talk to Jason, and try to understand more about her before we continued with our day.
"Jason," I said as we all sat down starting to look for where to search today. "Would you mind telling us, in any way what happened to you?" I said slowly, waiting for her to respond.
She pulled out another piece of paper. (Please can we not talk about it now.) I looked for about a second before she took the paper and she seemed to be in a now distressed look. I decided to let her be and help with the map.
We decided to look walk through and take a dangerous path through the outer ring of the no man's land that was the plague doctor's land, it was going to be a tough day, and we knew that, but the one thing that made it worth going there was the sheer amount of parts we can use to help us use to fight them. We left and went on our way to the plague doctor's land.
