All the students had been evacuated as soon as the police were called. Most of them were by the football stadium, others in the parking lot. A lot had just gone home.
Jay, Damian, Alisa, Brandon, and Ellie were all waiting by a police van, to be questioned. It didn't really look good for any of them, but mostly Alisa, Ellie, and Brandon. Alisa was already on watch for the death of a student, while Ellie and Brandon were immediately put as suspects just for being Evo's. Meanwhile, Jay didn't have an amazing record with the cops.
They waited in silence. Jay folded his arms. Alisa tapped her foot nervously. Brandon was rubbing his hands together. Ellie was holding her arm nervously. Damian looked down at the ground, playing with his fingers.
A cop began to walk towards them; middle aged, tall, brown hair with a bit of gray. He stood in front of them with a clipboard.
"Okay." He began. "You know how this goes. I just have to ask the five of you some questions. Is that alright?" None of them responded. He continued anyway. "How did you stumble upon the...the body?"
None of the teens said anything. The officer sighed. "Look, the quicker you answers my questions, the quicker you get to leave here. But you have to give me the truth. Please, start at the beginning. How did you find the body?"
Jay sighed. "I heard something." He admitted. "Something loud. I thought it was just some other students. It sounded violent, so I went to go look. And then I found it."
"You just heard a noise that sounded like a fight?" The officer asked skeptically.
"Yeah.." Jay said.
"That's impossible." The officer frowned. "Forensics looked over the body. It had to have been down there for at least twelve hours."
Jay looked up, blinking. "What?"
"Yeah. The body was too old. Whatever you heard, it was something else."
"No, but--" Jay began.
"You two are Evo's, correct?" The officer glared at Brandon and Ellie.
"Yes...?" Ellie answered. The officer wrote something down. Jay gritted his teeth.
"What does that have to do with anything?" He questioned. The officer looked up.
"Whoever killed that man had to be an Evolved Human." The officer said. "There was evidence that there were more than one attacker. At least three other tracks of blood lead out of the classroom, there might be more. A sight like that? Had to be one of them."
"Are you accusing us of something?" Damian asked. It was the first time he had spoken since they had opened the door in the basement; he had thrown up. "Because if you are, I can assure you that none of us did this."
"We're not accusing you of anything, Mr. Graham." The officer replied. "We're just trying to understand how Mr. Vega here managed to find a 12-hour-old body miraculously."
Ellie stepped up. "Sir, even if the word of an Evo means nothing, there's an explanation for what Jay heard."
"And I'm sure you're about to tell me that." The officer rolled his eyes. Ellie frowned.
"You said there were several footprints leading out of the room, but not out of the school." She said. "Sure, the footprints may be old, but how could someone's footprints just disappear from standing in blood? You said that there were several people involved, and they were most likely Evos, correct? What if one of them was a teleporter?"
The other four were looking at her. The officer's eyes widened. "Well, uh..."
"What if what Jay heard was the murderer teleporting back to the scene of the crime? Sure, it's broad daylight, but then again, they wouldn't expect anybody to go down there, right? They knew the risk, yet maybe they came back for something, maybe to write the message on the wall. Maybe they were trying to tip one of us off, maybe they knew we were down there. What's the point of writing a message if nobody sees it?"
