Laura Adeline Bass
New York. The big apple. The city that never sleeps. Home.
As soon as I stepped out of my private plane, I was greeted by the crisp morning air. I inhale the sweet scent of New York and smile.
God, It was good to be back.
I mean sure, Paris has its charm, but I have some unfinished business here at home. Plus, how could I miss the start of my senior year. Where I get to truly rule and enjoy the privileges that come along with my reign.
"Hello Arthur," I greet my driver as soon as I climbed into the limo. I sank back into the leather chair with a sigh. I haven't been in this limo for so long.
"Welcome back Ms. Bass," My driver replied.
"Thank you, Arthur. It's good to be back." I smiled, "Oh, could we make a quick stop at the Davenport's place?"
"Sure thing Ms. Bass." He takes a turn and we're off into the city.
My internship in Paris was definitely something. Getting away from New York for some time was helpful. For some time at least. I knew that sooner or later I'd have to come back and face my problems.
I was only gone for eight months from the upper east side, but it felt like I was gone for years. I can't wait to get back to my family, but first things first, I gotta go face Lucas Davenport. My boyfriend.
Distance really took a toll on us. Sure, he came to visit often, but each time we saw each other we became further apart. It felt like we were hanging by a single thread that could break at any moment. I really hope we can solve things out now that I'm back and that's why the Davenport household is my first stop.
We arrive at my destination and I get out of the limo, not before thanking Arthur.
As soon as I stepped into the busy New York streets, my heart stops as I realize what I'm about to do and what is at stake here. Was everything that happened with Luke my fault? Was I not trying hard enough? Could we fix it?
All these questions ran through my head and suddenly I stopped cold. I took a deep breath and finally gained the courage to step into the building.
Stepping into the penthouse, I was greeted by a tiny lady with brown eyes and streaked white hair. She was Luke's housemaid, Celia.
"Good Morning Ms.Bass, how may I help you?" Celia gave me a welcoming smile.
"Hello Celia, is Luke here?" I look around trying to spot my dreamy boy.
"Haven't you heard? Mr.Davenport isn't coming back until next week," I refrained my eyes from widening.
"Coming back? Where is he?" Where could he be? Why didn't he say anything? I have to bite my lip to keep from frowning.
