Months later...

Stepping into Granny's Diner, I made my way to the bar, taking a seat at one of the empty stools. The diner was filled with its regular customers who were out for their lunch breaks. I glanced around, looking at the familiar faces. After being in Storybrooke for so long, I knew a good majority of the people here.

"What'll it be today, Hook?"

I turned to look at Ruby, who gave me a smile.

"The regular please, Ruby," I said.

She nodded and walked off to make my meal. A moment of silence filled the diner before a growl was heard. Looking behind me, I could see Archie Hopper, the local psychiatrist, sitting at a table with Pongo beside him. What was confused was that Pongo was growling.

"Everything alright there, mate?" I asked Archie.

The shrink shook his head.

"He's normally very calm," he explained, standing up. He let go of Pongo's leash, letting him run to the closed door. The dog scratched at the door, barking a little and whining.

"Looks like he's trying to tell us something," Granny said. "Maybe something is going on outside?"

"Only one way to find out," I commented, rising from my seat and going to the door.

After making sure Pongo was back in Archie's grasp, I opened the diner door and stepped outside again. I looked down the main road, looking for anything unusual. Hearing Pongo bark again, I turned my head.

"Bloody h*ll," I murmured.

Down the street, smoke was rising into the air. Exchanging a quick glance with the doctor, I ran down the street.

By the time I reached the source of the smoke, a large crowd had gathered at the scene. Everyone was standing in front of a large home, which was currently on fire. Two fire trucks were spraying water onto the structure, trying to put out the flames. A few feet away was a parked Sheriff's car, its lights flashing.

"Swan!" I called upon seeing the familiar blond woman. She turned towards me as I approached her. "What is going on?"

"Not sure. We're trying to put out the fire as fast as we can."

"Emma!" a panicked voice cried. We turned to find Regina running towards us. "Emma, we need to get in there!"

"Regina, we're doing everything we can to get your sister out."

"But Henry is in there too!"

"What?"

"He had left my home a few hours ago to come and see (y/n). He hasn't come back yet."

Terror filled Emma's eyes.

"We need to get them out," I said.

"It's not that simple, Hook," Emma started to say, though I could see the panic filling her body.

I rolled my eyes before looking at David. All he gave was a simple nod. I quickly shrugged off my coat, pushing it into someone's arms. The two of us took off towards the burning home, ignoring the sounds of people shouting after us. When we ran through the front door, I raised my arm to protect me from the roaring flames.

"Hello!" I called, looking around. "Is there someone here!"

"Henry! (y/n)!" David shouted.

Suddenly, I heard a thud sound from above me. My head shot up at the sudden noise, causing me to run towards the stairs, David close behind me. We dashed up the stairs, two at a time, until we reached the second floor. There wasn't as much fire as there was downstairs, but there was plenty of smoke and heat.

"Hello!" I called again.

"We're down here!" a young voice shouted back.

David and I hurried down the hall and turned into one of the bedrooms. As soon as we stepped inside, we were met by Henry.

"You have to help her!" he exclaimed, pointing at someone across the room.

"David, get Henry outside," I said. "I'll get the lass."

"Hook, there's-"

"Go!"

The man nodded and quickly took his grandson in his arms. I hurried further into the room to find the body of the woman lying unconscious on the floor. I stared for a brief second when I recognized her. It was (y/n), the woman who had shown me a kindness and courage that I was never able to forget.

Bending down, I lifted her into my arms and ran out of the room, moving down the stairs as quickly as I could. When I reached the main floor, I found that the flames had grown larger than before. I turned my body away as the flames tried to lash out at the woman I was holding. Taking a deep breath, I bolted for the door.

As soon as I stepped outside, fresh air started to fill my lungs again. As much as I wanted to stand there and soak it all in, I continued towards the people standing in the road. I glanced down when I felt the woman in my arms beginning to move. I gently set her on the sidewalk as she began to cough.

"You alright there, luv?" I asked. In the new light, I could tell that (y/n) had remained the same after all these years.

"Henry," she rasped out. "Where is he?"

"He's fine. David got him out."

She nodded, a smile spreading onto her face. A moment later, two doctors came hurrying towards us. They set the young woman on a stretcher and took her away. After she was placed in the back of an ambulance, I felt many eyes on me. I turned around to look at the small family behind me, looks of pure shock on their faces.

"What?" I asked, confused as well.

"How do you know (y/n)?" Regina asked, obviously still stunned.

"It's been several decades," I replied. "The last night I saw her was when Cora had ripped out her heart."

Regina brought a hand to her mouth, stunned into silence. I was about to question her as to why that was important when Henry spoke up.

"Do you know anything about what happened to (y/n) after that night?" I shook my head. "I think it's time you learned your history then."
