Their Future Chp 2-
Katniss P.O.V.
At first Peeta seemed startled. Then he kissed back. I wound my fingers through his hair as he slipped his arms around my waist pulling my closer.
It wasn't like any of the other kisses we have shared this one was just me and him. How it should have been in the beginning.
Of course the moment had to be interrupted. We broke apart as soon as we heard someone clapping. And that someone was none other than our old mentor Haymitch. He looked pretty good a little drunk but not to drunk. He was standing in the door way to the house; leaning against the frame with an amused look on his face.
Peeta and I just stared at him, we hadn't moved. Suddenly Haymitch started to laugh.
"Well it took you two long enough." he said. I put my head on Peeta's chest and we both laughed with Haymitch.
"You hungry?" Peeta asked after a while. I lifted my head up to look at him.
"A little" I replied getting lost in his bright blue eyes.
"Well then let’s go" Peeta gave me a quick kissed then rolled up into a crouch. He offered me his hand and I gladly took it. When I was on my feet we walked to the house. Haymitch was already inside waiting on the couch.
“So Haymitch want to stay for dinner?" Peeta asked from the kitchen where he was already pulling stuff out of drawers.
"Well I kind of just assumed I was invited." he said with a shrug," so yeah I'm staying for dinner"
I laughed as I sat down at the bar and watched Peeta as he went to work.
Dinner was quick quiet and it tasted utterly amazing as Peeta’s dishes always did. Haymitch left early saying something about a lack of alcohol in this house. So I stayed and helped Peeta clean up.
"Well I really should be getting home now." I said looking at the clock above the sink it read 11:30. Wow time went by fast I thought. I looked over at Peeta to see he was looking at me.
"What" I asked.
"Nothing, I’ll walk you home" he said as he reached for my hand. I gladly have it to him, loving the feeling of his hand entwined with mine.
We walked across the victors’ village in silence. It was a comfortable silence one in which we were just enjoying being with each other.
It seemed like in no time at all we were standing in front of my house. I turned my head to look at Peeta to find him string at me again.
"What? And don't say nothing this time" I said giving him a slight nudge in the shoulder with my free hand.
He laughed and pulled me to him. He wrapped both arms around my waist and I wrapped mine around his neck. We leaned in so our foreheads touched. “Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?" Peeta asked in a whisper
I shook my head," no but it's nice to hear." I replied.
He tilted my chin up with his finger so I was looking him in the eye. He cupped my cheek with his hand. He leaned in a kissed the corner of my mouth. “Well then" he whispered against my cheek “I’ll have to tell you more often."
I wrapped my fingers in his blonde curly hair as he moved his lips over mine. This kiss was just like the last maybe better. I didn't want this to end. But it did when we needed to breathe.
"You should get some sleep" Peeta said as he pulled away.
"Stay with me" I asked so suddenly I didn't even have time to process it. "Please I can't sleep without you." I said.
“Always" he said he kissed my forehead. We walked up the steps and into my house.
And for some reason I knew that my life had taken a turn. For better or worse I didn't know. But one thing I did know was that if I had Peeta that was all I needed.
