As my mom drove to the new school in the tiny town I saw some kid on his bike drive past us. How can a kid on a bike drive faster than someone driving?!

"Come on mom or we'll be late." I say as she takes a turn following the bike.

"Just calm down. I'll get you there. If anything goes wrong call me immediately." She says as she takes a glance at me. I groan out loud.

"Nothing's going to go wrong here. Not having as many people around should help." I say as I lean my head against the window of our dark blue buick. I watch the trees brush past us as we turn into the school parking lot. My mom turns off the car and just sits there.

"Mom! Please don't do this again. I'm in control. Just let me go to school so I can at least feel normal, please?" I ask as I open the car door. She lets out a sigh then opens her door to walk up to the school. The school is an old building with two massive doors. We walk inside and are instantly ushered into the secretary's office.

"Hello! You must be the new family the principal was speaking of." spoke the secretary loudly. My mom started talking to her and the secretary started to type a few things on the computer at the same time. I looked round at the old brick walls and some old paintings that were covered in dust. We sat there answering questions for the Secretary for w while till finally she printed out a paper schedule and handed it to me.

"Let me call up someone to assist you in figuring out these maze for halls." says the secretary. I nod in answer. I hate talking to people. "Let's see... It looks like James has the same schedule as you. Let me call him up real quick." she says as she pulls an old fashioned mic to her face. She announces The name 'James Dashton' requesting him to the office.

A few minutes later a kid walks in with brown shaggy hair, green eyes and a black hoodie that was exactly the same as mine. He told us his name then held out his hand. My mind froze. I silently thought to myself in my head about what had happened last time I shook someone's hand. I looked up at my mom and she seemed worried, then I looked back at James, or as he said JD. I finally shook his hand for a moment but quickly pulled away after a single shake. The kid looked confused but, shrugged it off.

My mom turns to me and starts reminding me to keep safe and what had happened last time. She stops short and looks at JD. I tell her I'm fine and try to act like she's just an overprotective mom, but I guess she kind of is, and she also has every right to be, especially about me...
JD leads me to Mrs. Nanson's room and I sit next to him at a table littered with papers. He looks at the papers carefully and starts to organize them.

"So, Storm. Where ya from?" asks JD. My voice stops in my throat. 'Kid stop talking to me!' is what I want to say but instead I say "Someplace up south, then north, and pretty much all the other directions to. I guess me and my mom move around a lot." I say.

"Well, I've lived here my entire life so if you have any questions I'll most likely have the answer for them." he says.

"Well, I guess I'll start with what's up with this school? I ask.

"It was built in like 1960 something. It's original purpose was to be a prison but they decided it would be better to put a school in. So they changed it in the middle of construction. That's why the halls are messed up." he says. Wow. I guess he really does know his stuff.
