-Benjamin’s P.O.V-
“Are you out of your mind boy?” David’s usual roar was reduced to a harsh whisper, and he paced in front of me, watching to see until Charlotte and Annie were out of sight. “What do you think you’re doing bringing a human here? And with an hour’s notice too! Is this some sort of game?”
I smiled devilishly at his confusion. “This is part of my master plan father, though taking her to see you was just an amusement on the side. Your annoyance is brilliant to watch, really, you should go into acting.”
David fumed and swung to face me, a low growl tumbling out of his mouth. I could imagine Annie freaking out if she knew that he was just that close to shifting and tackling me to the ground. He wouldn’t dare though, not when Annie was in the house.
“What are you playing at Benjamin? Not a week ago you were a sniveling coward and ready to bend to my will! Your confidence is misplaced, though I’d love to know why you have it.”
“Why I’m confident? Father, a week ago I had believed you to be a strong Alpha, but that was before I witnessed you belittled by a rogue and brought to your knees by a single name. You’ve lost all power in my eyes, and it’s time that you were overthrown by a better candidate,” I gestured to myself.
David’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t bother replying to my threat. “And the girl? I doubt that she’s really a girlfriend that I had no knowledge about, why is she here?”
“Her? She’s just part of the plan and nothing more. Poor girl doesn’t know what she’s walked into,” I laughed. “But you’ll find out soon enough, when I capture the rogue and prove to the rest of the pack that I am fit for the Alpha position. Then we’ll see who’s more popular among his men.”
“Do you really think that you can be voted into the position by my men? The loyal men that I gave second chances to? You really are delusional, and no son of mine threatens me!” David growled and stepped forward.
“So you’re disowning me now father, am I not enough like the other son? The perfect, golden boy James? I know that I was never like him, but I didn’t need to be thrown aside because of it! All of this hatred that I have for you is your own fault, so don’t try and blame me when I become Alpha and get rid of you, you’ve called for it yourself!” With that I stormed down the corridor, leaving a blank faced David behind me. I’d never stood up to him before, and the feeling overwhelmed me. It felt empowering to finally disregard his orders and tell him what I thought, I should do it more often.
We couldn’t stay here any longer, Annie and I. Now that I had told my father of my plans, I had to set them in action before he could stop me. Those plans required Annie, and we needed to leave.
I burst through the dining room doors and didn’t pay much attention to the flabbergasted doormen. Charlotte and Annie were seated across from each other, awkwardly enjoying the silence and chewing small bites of salmon sandwiches. They both looked up, alarmed at my entrance.
I put my hand on Annie’s back and threw up the charming boyfriend façade once more. Facing my mother, I gave her a sympathetic smile. “Sorry to interrupt your bonding ladies, but Annie and I urgently have to go. Annie, after you?”
Annie frowned and rose from her seat, unsure of what to do. She offered a soft thank you and farewell to my mother before following me out of the room. My mother was just as shocked as Annie, and I could hear her footsteps pattering behind us.
“Benjamin, what are you doing? It is the height of rudeness to leave in the middle of lunch!” she sounded so pathetic, trying to cling onto her front of the loving mother. All those years when I was mistreated and forgotten, she never said a word to take it away. She was as much to blame as father.
