I was unhappy. I didn't feel like anyone truly fit with me. Jake was the best I could do, but even he felt superficial and fake. Don't get me wrong, Jake was amazing. He just wasn't right for me. None of them were.

I didn't really have friends, either. I was kind of outcasted for no reason at all. That'll happen in high school. People find useless reasons to get rid of you.

I spent most of my days coasting along. Jake came over a lot, since my parents were always working. He was having a lot of fun, I was not. I wanted more. I wanted the man across the street.

One night, my parents came into my room. I looked up from the homework I was doing to see my parents smiling at me.

  "What?" I asked them warily.

  "Well," My dad started off.
"Your mom and I just received some good news."

  I waited expectantly.

"We won a cruise for two!" My mom burst out. I felt relief flood me. That was good for them. I hated cruises.

"We hate to leave you, but we know you're old enough to stay here by yourself for a few days."
My dad said.
"We'll buy you some food, you just have to watch over everything."

I nodded absentmindedly. I was okay with that.

It would be nice to have a little peace and quiet.
