-Narrator-
Sapphire turned around and saw where the voice was coming from. She was chest height to the man and slowly looked up, seeing that it was her next victim.
“There’s nothing you can do to help him now,” Patrick said.
“Why are you doing this?” Sapphire questioned.
“I have already told you, you’re worthless, you don’t deserve to live.” Patrick then took out his lighter, got it so close to Sapphires face that her eyelashes were singed. Harry saw this and came running over, grabbed Sapphire and bumped into Patrick. They all fell to the ground and Patrick’s lighter hit the table cloth, and the entire thing went up into flames in seconds. Screaming and panicking filled the room. They brought in a giant hose that they used to put out the fire and left the patients, that still haven’t figured out their plan, to wonder why they didn’t call the fire department. All the patients went crazy, trying to run wherever they could just to get out of that place. They eventually caught everyone and locked them in there rooms once more, but this was the last time that Sapphire and Harry would be locked in their rooms.
"Tonight," Sapphire said once the door closed, "it's going down."
"We can do this." Harry said to himself repetitively. Sapphire got worried because those were the only words he had been saying for the past five minutes.
"Harry are you okay?"
"We can do this, we can do this, we can't do this Sapphire." he cried, falling limp in her arms. His sobs were quiet, but could still be heard by Sapphire. She rubbed his back with her small hand, trying the best she could to comfort the frightened boy.
"Yes we can, because we are doing this together Harry." she encouraged. Harry gave her a forced smiled and softly kissed her forehead, then lied down on his bed. Sapphire got in behind him, and wrapped her arms around his body, pulling him more towards her. They stayed like that until the middle of the night, when it was time for Sapphire to go. They opened their beds and exposed the squares so they could jump in their right away when they needed to.
"I'll be back, I promise." Sapphire said. They locked pinkies and she kissed Harry hard on the lips, put on her gloves and boots, then picked the lock of the door. She walked through the halls and found Patrick's door. Sapphire picked the lock with her paper clip and got it unlocked within seconds. She quietly walked in taking time to examine everything in sight, then she heard the shower running and got to work. Sapphire walked into his bathroom, took one of his towels and put on the paint thinner she had found on her way there. With her scissors in one hand, and the towel in the other, she opened the curtains and immediately covered his face with the towel and he passed out. Using all her might she stabbed his head with her scissors and let his blood run freely down the shower drain. She then lied him down on the ground and washed her scissors good. Sapphire then took off as quiet and as fast as possible. She barged back into her room and took off her gloves and placed them in a ripped seam of the mattress. She kissed Harry once more and then they both got in their beds, placed the blankets over them and waited.
-3 hours later-
"Where are they!" a voice echoed through the hall. Then, the door opened and a faint whisper of someone saying, "Shit where did they go," gave them the sense that they figured out what had happened. When the door slammed shut Harry and Sapphire got to work. They packed up the water they have collected, the blankets, weapons and twenty-five dollars and smashed open the window. They crawled out and ran into the woods and near the highway, where they hiked a good two miles until they came to another forest that they escaped into.
-Harry-
"We should take a break." I suggested.
"Okay." Sapphire breathlessly said, and we sat down, leaning against a tree. I took her hand and looked into her light purple eyes.
