CHAPTER I

_______________________________________________

P.

Crack! There goes the last bit of lechon skin that I was eye-ing ever since I have arrived. Well, not worth the fight, anyway. Turn around ang peg ni Tita from the mesa cause my voracious appetite was absolutely lost due to the pamamaga of my pisngi kuha sa halik nang mga kung sino-sinong imbitado ngayong gabi. I excused myself and practically hid sa likod nang mga utensil cabinets. I need to literally tear myself away from the crowd tonight or I will lose my sanity. I was perfectly safe here in this little---

"Congratulations!" Mama practically yanks me from the little comfort zone I have left and literally dragged me back into the limelight-that is, sa harap nang mesa, literally in front of the afritada, bakareta and etc. to be ogled by the more coming guests. Ika nga, sa panahon nang pista, kasal, libing, binyag at kung ano ano pa, 'Ang bida, dapat nasa harap nang mesa, hindi dahil ikaw ang gumasta pero para pansinin nang mga bisita ang iyong ganda.'

"Ma, for the one thousandth time, thank you. Ikaw nga lang panay greet nang greet eh. Ginagaya ka tuloy nang iba." I smiled and hugged my Mama, still. Masaya ako, I promise. Nakakafrustrate nga lang na paulit-ulit na ang greetings nang people of the universe. May 'congratulations' from the kapamilyas, kapuso, kapatids, katropa,ka-feeling close and believe me, 'congratulations' from the ka-walanghiyaans (Yung mga hindi mo naman talaga kakilala but since wide open ang gate and main entrance nang bahay niyo ay nakiki-take advantage nalang. Hello? Pagkain.)

Well, Congratulations are in order nga rin naman,  I'm not a party person but since this is the culmination of me and my parents dream, pagbigyan ang dakilang Ama at Ina sa handaang ito. Kung anak mo ba naman ang naka pasa sa Board Exam, hindi ka ba magpapatumba ng baka?

"You're a full-fledged doctor." Dad chinked his wine glass at me. "Never have I been so proud of you, Pau." He sighed.

"Well, if you think about it, Dad. It's really not that surprising. I'm right on my life timeline."

"Here we go, again." He laughed, throaty and manly.

"No, Dad. Hear me out." I pouted and gave him my twinkling eyes knowing that he won't like the conversation I was about to delve in. That's it, Dad. Go away.

"Oh no, I won't, Baby Girl. I've heard that before. It's party night. No. More. Talking. About. Timelines." He poured himself another drink, "You make me feel so old." He winked and then left. I grinned. Nothing makes me feel so accomplished than seeing my parents very happy.

Dad was our Winnie the Pooh. Cuddly, chubby and happy. Cute, noh?

My Mama is more of like Sharon Cuneta. Elegant, Chubby and a Sweetiepatotie.

Notice the one adjective they have in common? HA-HA.

Or wait, I think Dad's like, Bobot Mortiz? Yes, I really have to change from Winnie to Bobot. It'll be so weird to pair up Sharon with a Disney character, diba? But, you get the picture. They're the perfect parents one could ever ask for. Happiness and energy lagi sa bahay and child support all-the-way ang drama.
