The Sound of The Shell

(12 months before the Cry of the Lovers.)

It was a Friday, and the sky was grey and apathetic. In contrast, warm honey colored eyes contemplated the scene right before his eyes.

But the agony came from his left. There was a scream of wind as a brown projectile fist came into contact with his lightly tanned head.

And then he was on the ground with a shortage of breath and felt like Piggy during gym.

"Oh bloody Hell." He heard the words come from his mouth. But he had no recollection of moving his lips.

That was funny. Not really funny. But he needed something to steady his heart, and his instinctively childish humor kicked in.

So he accepted his often irrational amusement and let a beatific laugh come barreling out. A few more giggles stumbled out clumsily. Like newborns. Funny.

A picture of a babe in a manger flashed before his eyes. All he could see was Simon. And for some odd reason, he laughed at that too. They called him the Golden boy.

But wouldn't that make him Comedic Gold?

A few more fleeting mouth burps bubbled up to the surface. He must have looked quite batty.

Squinting up, he saw that the sky was blue. But he had been so sure it was grey.

And then he saw little balls of fire around it. Well, them. There were two skies. Two skies looking at him with ardent electricity.

He giggled some more.

The two skies widened.

The electricity between him and this atmosphere crackled. They were encompassed in a little universe. He was the bottom, and this endless sky the top.

He recognized the clouds in the blue yonder, and the shadows that played on the ground as a result. He felt the hot and tepid gale on his face.

Funny how this atmosphere was so cold, yet was so hot all at the same time.

So hot.

The skies opened up widely, as if surprised. But skies couldn't feel. Skies couldn't possibly get closer, and closer until-

"Ralph?"

A discordant sound ruined his sapphire fantasy.

Blinking, Ralph saw the skies for what they were. Endless pools of déja vu. Clear yet clouded, glimmering on a face that was ugly yet beautiful. He breathed in the heat.

He knew the universe he was looking at, the power in those wide skies. This creature had a name. The simplicity of it's branding contrasted with it's complex nature.

"Jack."

Flashback

"Are you sure we should be doing this?" A man with honest maple eyes asked, scratching the back of his long brown neck.

"Don't be ridiculous. No one can know the demented little bedtime story these savages created during their time on the island." A woman replied, brushing her tawny red hair. Electric eyes glared at the boys in the confinement zone.
