"Would you like to travel with me?", said the woman cloaked in a maroon hood and poncho. Her eyes shine through the shadow it casts on her face, and the emotion from the gaze is one that sends uncomprehendable emotions through the boy.He stared into her eyes, clenched one hand around his basket and the other around the strap of his satchel, and with just a slight shakiness to his voice, replied, "Yes."
He had seen this woman before, each day dressed in flourishing robes, heavy-looking jewelry, and what seems to be a bag of never-ending gold coins. There are some days when she is not around, and on the day after that, she appears with even more treasures. No one knows where this woman came from or how she gets these expensive items, and most steer clear of her, sensing the aura of danger that surrounds her.
His family is poor and filthy. He wears the same garments everyday along with his mother and are only able wash them once a month, when the pay comes in and they can afford the extra water from the community well. His family is just like any other that lives in this village, each of them poor as the other.
The stark contrast between the woman and the boy talking in the street had made many eyes turn to them.
"Are you sure about this, boy?", she asks with a slight change in tone, a more threatening value adds to her voice, but it does not stop what comes out of his mouth:
"Yes,"
He would do whatever it takes so that his mother doesn't have to live like this, like the pigs that the neighbor treats poorly, or like the always-thirsty horses that the stable man doesn't even need but keeps around for the horses to suffer anyways.
"I am positive."
