The White Assassin

Ch. 19 - 10 Years Later

"Earth Queen!" a servent shouted. I turned to see him urgently running towards me. I raised my eyebrows and told him to continue. "You have some visitors. I told them you were busy but they won't leave." I nodded and gave the servant a gentle smile.

"I shall take care of it, thank you. See to it that the children eat all of their lunch." I said to him. He nodded and walked over to my children in the dining room. As I walk towards the front door, I start to remember the day that we beat the fire nation. A lot has changed since that day. I've become the queen of the Earth Kingdom and couldn't be happier. Aang and I got married but he prefers his time in the air temples which is understandable. We have two children together, a boy named Luke and a girl named Josephine. My parents are still around to look after the children when I'm on duty and I'm thankful for them. However there is a pit of sadness still in my stomach ever since we beat the fire nation 10 years ago. Ever since that time, I had not seen Katara, Toph, Sokka, Haron or Pete. It makes me sad that I'm too busy for them to visit but I hope they all have wonderful lives. They are my best friends even with the 10 year gap and I hope I get to see them soon.

I made my way to the front door and the guards gave me smiles. "How can we help you today miss?" One of them asked me.

"Would you mind opening the gate? I heard there were some guests that are here to see me." They smiled and nodded. The gates slowly opened and revealed an empty lawn. I looked out in confusion and walked outside. I look through out the garden but there was no one there. Where have these strange visitors gone? I scratch my head and am about to turn around when I hear a ruffling to my right. I look and see the leaves moving slightly. I look at the bush confused and walk over to it to investigate. Then I hear water coming towards me, I'm being attacked! I turn quickly and throw up an earth wall to protect me from the water. It splashes into the wall and the rock soaks up the moisture. The wall collapses and I look fiercely to the direction of where the water came. "Show yourself!" I shouted.

"She's still as fiery as I remember." Someone said.

"I said show yourself!" I said again. Five shadows come out of the darkness and are illuminated by the light. I see their faces and I can't help but feel happy. The familiarity of their presences made me feel at home, even though we were on the earth kingdom grounds. I smiled and chuckled, "so this is how you throw a surprise visit?" I asked them. They laughed. Standing in a line were Katara, Toph, Sokka, Haron and Pete. They all looked much older and more mature. Katara's hair was shorter and she wore clean and neat clothes, like a wife. Toph was still pretty short but her hair was much longer and she wore a green dress. Sokka had wrinkles under his eyes, I bet he's married with children. Haron and Pete looked about the same but they were much taller than I remember. I ran towards them and they all gave me a giant bear hug.

"Where's Aang? I'm sure we would all like to see him!" Sokka asked me. I smiled at him and everyone awaited my answer.

"He's in his study, follow me." I said. I turned back towards the doors and walked through the castle walls. They admired the paintings and structure of the building while we traveled. Luke and Josephine both ran out of a room and bumped into me. Since they were both very young, they weren't very tall so they ran into my legs. I chuckled and they hugged my legs.

"Mommy, won't you please play with us?" Luke asked me. I kneeled down towards him and smiled.

"Sorry buddy, I have to show these guest to father really quickly. Afterwards we can play, alright?" I said to him. He smiled and grabbed Josephine's hand. They ran down the hallway and I followed them with my gaze. I caught the groups expressions and they all had smiles on their faces.

"Looks like someone got busy." Toph commented. We all laughed and continued our journey to the study. When we made it to the door, trying not to disturb Aang, I knocked on the door a couple of times and waited. A couple seconds the door opened. Aang smiled when he saw me and then looked to see the rest of the group. His eyes went from their normal size to bigger than China. He ran into the group and tackled them with a giant hug.

"What're you guys doing here?" Aang asked loudly.

"We were in the area and decided to pay a visit to some old friends." Pete said.

"Oi!" I shouted and they looked at me. "I'm not that old." I smirked and the rest of the group laughed.

"Ah that's right, you're ancient." Pete retorted.

"That's better." I said back which made him smile.

"It's so good to see you all, what have you been up to?" Aang asked. Everyone started to get into their own new life stories. Sokka was now the chief of his village with a wife and three children. Katara and Pete had kicked it off and started dating which I did not expect at all. Good for them! Haron was still in his old village helping out the elders with some of the upgrades. Toph was still pretty young so she's been exploring new grounds and leading soldiers into some battles. Aang opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by a giggle. We all turned to see Luke and Josephine running towards us. Josephine tapped on my shin and ran screaming.

"Mommy's it! Everyone run!" She yelled.

"Oh-ho I don't think so!" I looked at Aang and tapped his shoulder. "Aang's it!" I yelled and ran. Everyone started laughing and ran out into the courtyard. We all played tag and tried to get each other. It was one of the nicest things that has ever happened. A visit from the old interacting with the present is really the best gift someone can ever give.
