Prologue
You never know how much you actually have until its ripped out from underneath you.
The world is quiet, too quiet. The world hasn't been this quiet since before the Ice Age. Everything is torn to shreds. Ever since those...things..started to walk, its been hell on Earth. Ever since those doctors started to experiment on humans. They call it cordeyceps, the mutation that causes all who are infected to crave human flesh. Any contact with them can cause spread of the infection. Whats even worse is when one of those things die naturally, the body sprouts up mushrooms, which can kill you if you breathe in the fumes. You really have to be on your toes in this world.
But human history has stopped, like someone told time to freeze. No rushing to get here, no rushing to get there. No loud noises over the cities, just the loud collective groan of those infernal creatures. No more adventures to the depths of the ocean, no more going up into the galaxies around us.
We had finally built an empire, and then everything came crashing down.
