Christy's POV
10 days. It's been 10 days since my partner and I started this journey. We have been walking without food for about 4 of these days.
"Hey, look an exit!" My partner said. I looked at my partner. Reagan Iarson, my bestest friend in the world, was pointing toward a sign in the distance. On the desolate highway, the sign was like a godsend.
"Well, let's get going." I said as I wiped away my hair. I looked at my friend, and wished that the situation was different.
Reagan had dark brown hair, long enough to reach the end of her shirt. She usually kept it up in a braid, and tucked inside her father's hunting jacket. She had emerald green eyes, and a small round face. I could see her struggle with the weapons hanging off her bag, a bow and arrow set that she had picked up from a Runner. She hiked up her bag, and looked back at me.
"I hope that this exit has some food, I'm starving." She said with a wink.
"Then let's get on with it." I tease.

As we neared the sign, we saw something unnerving. This was a 2 lane exit, with both lanes ending in a town called "Holbrook" One lane was jam packed with car wreckage, while the other didn't have a single car in it.
"This looks like an ambush setup, best go in the lane with the cars." I called to Reagan as she began to head towards the empty lane.
"But what if there are more zombies?" She asked with worried eyes.
Damn, I forgot about those. A few weeks ago, scientists had come out saying that an experiment, specimen X, had broken out. About 3 days after that, the world went to hell. People got infected with a disease called CDI, or cordyceps infection. It caused victims to break out into hostile behavior, basically becoming a zombie.
Reagan and I had to fight those things for 2 weeks, after we had escaped the small town that we lived in.
I thought about the odds, and said quietly "Okay, but we best be on our toes". I hauled up my bag and walked down the lane.
I wish I had took the zombies.
