Meher sat quietly in the dressing room of her wedding venue. She had asked everyone to step out as she wanted a few minutes with herself. She looked up at the mirror and sighed. She did look beautiful in her wedding attire. Her rich dad had made sure she dressed in the most expensive dress exclusively designed for her by the leading designer in Bombay. She had lost a lot of weight in the past eight months after Persis broke up with her but that also meant she had lost all her baby fat and achieved the lean body frame she always desired. This time without working hard for it.
"The heartache was worth something, at the least." she exclaimed as she gave herself a supportive smile.Persis was the love of her life, they had dated for eight years, she always imagined that she would marry him one day and make cute little babies. She understood why Persis broke her heart. She did not blame him for being angry and unable to even look her in the eyes without hatred. She just blamed her greedy father but there was nothing she could do about it. She was like a helpless cow.
"Not today, not now." Meher scolded herself for all the self pity. She was done being weak and crying over Persis. She had to move on. She would never fall out of love with Persis but she did not have to. She just had to start a new life with Darayus. She din't have to love him. Marriages worked without love too. She had seen her parents marriage work. At the least Darayus would respect her unlike her father. Her father neither loved nor respected her mom. He in fact loved and respected only himself. Darayus was not like her father. He was a good boy. He was gentle, smart and successful.....just like Persis.
ugghhh.....she needs to stop thinking about Persis. But the more she tried to not think about him, the more she did. She hadn't seen his face since they broke up. Eight months to be precise, but she remembered his face as if it was imprinted on her mind. His lean muscular body, chiseled face, pointed nose, cute dimples and deep hazel eyes. He was beautiful. And he was hers.
"Not anymore" she scolded herself. That came out in a crooked voice. She couldn't be strong about this. In less then an hour she was getting married and Persis was not her groom. Tears threatened to leave her damped eyes but before she could manage to compose herself, the door to her dressing room flew open.
There stood the boy she yearned for. Tall, fair and handsome. Her Persis. He stared at her with intense eyes. He hadn't shaved and he looked miserable. Yet beautiful. Her Persis.
She stared at him with disbelief while he calmly walked towards her.
" You look beautiful." He murmured while staring into her deep blue eyes.
"What are you doing here?" She whispered
"You are mine." He stated with gritted teeth.
Meher couldn't control her tears anymore. She smiled as if she had won the lottery, or a beauty pageant or just nirvana.
Persis walked closer and embraced her in a tight hug.
After what seemed like ages, He pulled apart which earned him a protest from her. She felt like if she let him go an inch farther, he will disappear.
Persis smiled a sad smile and kissed her forehead. "We need to leave quickly, before someone comes."
"where are we going?" She asked with confusion on her face.
"Elope with me? Marry me." He asked as if he knew her answer will be yes.
And yes it was. With a huge grin plastered on her face, Meher placed her hand in his and started to walk.
"Aren't we suppose to like run?" She chuckled.
"you are mine. and i don't need to run while i take what's mine. I am no thief." He said as a matter of fact.
"Unlike my father." she whispered to herself.
He heard but decided not to comment. This was not the time to dwell on it. They needed to be out of this damned place as soon as possible. He took a right turn towards the backdoor and walked towards his car parked just outside the metal gate. A few people standing on the pavement stared at them walking away hand in hand. A beautiful bride was leaving the venue with a messed up looking rich boy. It looked like what it actually was. They were eloping. Before anybody could react, they were in the car and already hitting the road.
Meher couldn't stop grinning. She felt like she finally got her life back. She looked outside and realized that it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining bright and the cold winter breeze made the trees sway. She took a deep breath and looked at the beautiful man seated next to her in the driving seat. She studied his face before speaking.
"You look terrible." she said with worry in her voice.
"I am terrible without you baby." Persis said with his eyes on the road.
"Am i a bad person to feel happy about it? "
Persis looked at her as his lips curled up into a smile.
Meher yearned to see his freaking gorgeous dimples. They took her breath away.
"I am extremely happy that you are terrible without me Persis.....because i felt like a corpse without you." She said with damped eyes.
"you have lost weight."
"i lost my soul without you. a little weight is nothing" she said sarcastically.
She never realized that she was upset with Persis for leaving her. She understood the reason but she expected him to still choose her. She was disappointed nonetheless. But he was here now and he was going to marry her. She couldn't be upset any longer.
"Sorry" she said.
He nod his head in understanding. "we are going to the marriage registrar. Are you ready to be my wife baby?"
"Can't wait......absolutely can't fucking wait." She grinned like a baby.
He laughed and held her hand in her palm as they drove silently.
