She clutched her chest in pain as she fell into the snow, a hand covering her mouth. This startled the lazy skeleton strolling beside her. He rushed to her side as she began coughing up those dreadful petals. honestly in her eyes this was better than feeling the way she did.
She had fallen into the underground only a few months ago with another girl named Frisk. They had met Toriel, keeper of the ruins. They stayed there a while before needing to continue their journey. She was sad but understood. she had asked them to at least stick together and stay safe. They exited the ruins and walked along the snowy path eventually meeting Sans and Papyrus. They were kind skeletons and they invited the two to live with them, which they agreed to.
Eventually after some time of living with the two she had developed feelings for the pun loving skeleton. She was planning to confess to him but as she turned the corner she saw Frisk and Sans talking. A blush covered both of there faces as they leaned in and kissed each other.
At that moment she felt her heart shatter into pieces. She covered her mouth tears rolling down her cheeks. She turned and ran before the two could notice her. She didn't go home that night. She stayed out in the snow crying her eyes out until she heard people looking for her. She quieted down and sniffled standing up to run but she became light headed and fell back into the snow. She passed out just before a figure picked her up.
She woke up, sitting up. she was no longer outside but in a room. everything was white. She felt numb. The pang in her chest was gone and it no longer hurt. She summoned her soul. it was no longer the vibrant shade of red it used to be. The color was faded and it was cracked. but what surprised her the most was the single purple flower tangled around her soul.
At that moment Sans, Alphys, and Frisk walked in. they were a bit startled to see her awake but rushed over to her none the less. She looked down at her hands and scooted away from them. Sans was about to say something when she broke out into a horrible coughing fit. Purple petals spilled out of her mouth. Frisk had looked at her in disgust and quickly left the room. Alphys was panicking and left the room to go get something. It left her and him alone. The coughing had subsided and she stared down at the bed that was covered in the soft purple petals. She didn't dare look up at him. She wasn't angry at him, just upset. It felt horrible. She found tears were blurring her vision once more. She hated that Frisk made a move. She regretted telling Frisk when she planned on confessing. She thought she could trust her.
It didn't occur to her that Sans was staring at her until he pulled her into a gentle hug. She gasped softly before pushing him away. A confuse look flashed across his face when she did. She looked up at him, letting her tears fall. This seemed to startle him. He looked worried as he reached out a hand to hers. She pulled her hand away, a hurt look flashed across her face as she turned away not saying a word, both in fear of the petals but also in fear of saying something she didn't mean. Sans pulled his hand back, a hurt, sad looking also coming over his face.
Alphys burst back into the room with a clipboard and broom. She handed the broom off to Sans asking him if he could sweep up the petals on the floor. He obliged and started doing so just as Alphys walked up to her nervously. She was asked many questions but all she could do was shake her head and nod. Eventually she stopped responding all together and Alphys just gave up. Alphys left the room just and Frisk walked in. Frisk glared at her and scoffed in disgust. She just ignored Frisks glare and continued to sit there in silence. Sans looked at Frisk confused as he was dragged out of the room. It was quiet. She stared blankly at the wall before she started coughing again. After it calmed again she decided it was time to get some rest.

The next day Alphys came back. She asked her only a few questions this time before telling her there was nothing she could do to help. Alphys didn't say anything about running the tests in her sleep as she was sure she was gonna react bad. Alphys said she could leave if she wanted before exiting the room. She stayed at the lab for a few weeks not wanting to face the couple she oh so dispised.
It worried Papyrus and Sans but Frisk was glad to have her out of the house. It was more time for Frisk to spend with Sans. When she finally returned from the lab Papyrus was beaming with exicitement as she walked into the house. He enveloped her in a hug which she weakly returned. She noticed Sans and Frisk on the couch cuddling but they were interupted when she walked in. Frisk was glaring while Sans was waving happily.
"what is she doing here?" Frisk asked, obviously annoyed.
She couldn't talk without coughing up petals so she signed instead, surprising Sans. 'Well I live here you Twit.'
Frisk was a bit taken back by her reponse but glared none the less. Sans was shocked and confused, her kind, caring personality seemingly gone. She stared coldly at the pair before walking upstairs not another word said.
A month had passed and she had warmed back up to Sans, not Frisk. Sans was taking her on a walk because he had a few questions for her. But before he could say anything she collapsed. She was coughing out petals again, but the problem was they weren't stopping. It was becoming hard for her to breathe and Sans noticed this. He panicked and placed a hand on her back not knowing what to do. They had walked too far out of Snowdin to call for help and he couldn't leave her. With a small ping her soul appeared. Sans looked ar it shocked. By now all the color was drained leaving it a light shade of grey. The purple flower had spread and the stems had been clenching her soul tightly. It was slowly cracking before his eyes and before he knew it, he found himself crying. He pulled her shaking form into his chest and cried.
"N-No! kid you can't die! P-Please don't leave me! I-I don't know what i'd do without you! I-I love you!" he cried. He had confessed to her in sheer panic.
Suddenly the coughing stopped. He had thought she died right then and there which only made him cry harder. He stopped when he felt a hand touch his cheek. She had tears streaming down her face as she smiled up at him. He choked a sob and smiled back, never so relived in his life. From then on both of them promised to stick together till the end no matter what happened.
