The doctor acts immediately, so fast I'm left in an abyss staring at the unconscious Jesse. "I'm going to have to do a C section," he says. I just nod, not knowing what else to do. The whole room seems to be in chaos- Lily is praying, there's women rushing around with towels and IV tubes and surgical instruments and I feel as if I can't even breathe. I stand in the middle of the room, staring at what may be my niece or nephew.
Before I know it, I'm being rushed out of the room by a pair of hands-rough, big, and hard- Caesar. He closes the door behind us. I look around in the silent hallway. Everyone's eyes seem to be on me. "So what the hell was that?" Bruno is the first to speak.
"Jesse is pregnant...by Alissandrio," my chest squeezes tight as the words make their way out of my mouth.
"Alissandrio got Jesse pregnant?" I can't even process the truth of the words. 'My brother, Alissandrio is having a baby.'
"What is happening here?!" Comrade's voice booms through the hallway. "Why is...?" he trails off mid sentence. "Is everything ok?" he looks past me to the sobbing Lily, behind us.
"My baby," she sobs. He pulls Lily into a hug and leads her into the study.
"So, Alissandrio got Jesse pregnant?" Davide asks.
"That's what she said man."
"How could we miss it?" Bruno asks. I just shake my head. 'My niece or nephew.' The words keep playing through my head over and over.
"What're they doing to her in there?" Adolfo speaks for the first time.
"They have to do a C section," The words come out barely audible.
"Is she going to be ok?" I can feel a wet trail on my cheek. I slide to the floor, the others following fashion. No one says a thing. No one moves. It doesn't seem as if anyone even breathes. We just sit there, all drowning in our own abyss.
My eyes flutter open, I feel like I've been out for weeks. My throat hurts and my body is sore. 'Where am I?' I reach around panicked, my heart picking up speed. "Hey, hey it's ok," Caesar's voice calms me down. I sigh, my eyes adjusting to the brightness. I'm in one of the guest bedrooms.
"What happened? Where is everyone? Is Jesse ok?" the words scramble out of my mouth frantically, burning my throat. Caesar looks down, avoiding my eyes.
"I-"
"Just tell me please," I beg.
"They were able to save the baby but Jesse...she...her body couldn't handle the amount of stress and she slipped into a coma. The doctor did the best he could do, the baby is healthy. Lily had a complete breakdown, she insisted on taking Jesse to Italy. They're being transported to a small town there, where they have some family. Lily was really tore apart and it was honestly the best decision, they have this really great doctor there for Jesse-"
"They're gone?"
"Yes."
"Did they take the baby?"
"She's here," he turns to a small white crib in the corner and protrudes a baby from it- A BABY. Caesar cradles the little being in his arms. "Her name is Rosaline, Rose for short," he smiles. Tears start to make their way down my face.
"Can I hold her?" I croak.
"Of course, you are the godmother after all." My eyes widen wide as I take Rosaline in my arms, making sure to hold her close to my chest. Her skin is a cream color and her eyes are closed, she has Jesse's face-'Thank God.'
