Maia Grace's eyes opened slowly as she woke up from her dream.

Flash Back

"Charlieee I screamed, racing for our dog who was just about to fall off the firery building. There were holes covering all the floor, how was I meant to get out? The smell of charring wood filled my nose and the thick ash buried itself deep into my skin. I could barely breath. It was getting worse, the light was flickering and then suddenly it went off, the only things I could see were from the fire light. I tried drop and roll, but it was far to late for that. Where was everyone else? Why did I only have the dog with me? Suddenly time seemed to stop still and I slowly faded away.

Waking down our neighbourhood street I said hello to everyone I recognised. "Hello Martin!" "Hello Julie, hope Maxine is doing fine!" "Oh Beatrice, I didn't know you had another child!" It was weird that nobody seemed to acknowoledge me! Then suddenly out popped a teenage boy, who seemed about my age and I thought I recognised, but wasn't sure. "Are you new to the neighbourhood? I'm Maia Grace, and you are?"

"Hiya! No? I have lived here since I was born, so 15 years now. I haven't seen you around though? Maybe we could be friends? I'm Tom."

"Okay, I'm confused right now but yeah sure!"

Days and months past and me and Tom became great friends, we did everything together. Played in the medows, talked by the lake, went shopping, I helped him do his summer assignments, we shared our first kiss together. We became unseperatable, we slept in the tree house behind my garden. I didn't even find it strange that I never saw my parents, they were never normally in before anyway.

Then one day Tom invited me round to his house. I gladly took the invitation. He exlained that his nan was out so we cooked our own tea of spaghetti bolognese with noodles! It was the nicest combination. We baked cakes, cookies and he insisted we make a batch each and ice them in secret and show eachother them after. I spent ages adding all the sweet little toppings and writing short messages on the top. His cupcakes read out a message just for me said 'I love you, will you be my girlfriend.' I never got time to answer before his nan came in and said "My golly Tom, who are all these cupcakes for? Me and you will never eat all them!"

"Oh nan, you are silly! They're for me AND Maia Grace!" Tom said laughing slighlty, thinking his Nan was going mental.

"Maia Grace Kensworth? She died in a house fire just down the road when she was 15."

Tom's eyes went round and scared. The last words I heard him say were "But I love her" Then I faded away. That seemed to be my problem. Fading away.
