((Y/N)'s POV)
I connect the last wire on the back panel of AIM. As in Artificial Intelligence: Morty. I boot him on with a few keyboard clicks and stand in front of him as he powers to life. He stares up at me with the beautiful blue eyes the person who ordered him asked for. You see, I make Robots, or AIs for people who will pay enough or put in an order.
A year ago the Smith Family came in and ordered an AI. They wanted a human boy. A boy with blue eyes like the mom, and brown hair like the dad. His personality was then based on how he would learn to cope with his surroundings. I gave him a yellow shirt, yellow is a happy color and I'd like him to be happy and this would be able to help me find him better in crowds if needed. I gave him blue jeans and some black high top sneakers. I smiled at him as his eyes finished looking around the room and landed on me. His insides were silent, my handy work obviously, I didn't want people to hear the whirs of the machinery inside, he wouldn't be much human if they could hear his insides tic and tock.
"Activate scanning protocol 137." I command and glance at my clip board and get ready to check the yes or no boxes.
"Activating Scanning Protocol 137." He confirms in a monotone preteen voice I had made him. I smiled and checked the yes boxes for vocal audio working and response programming.
"Scan complete." I nod with a not to shabby thought in my brain. I check that box off for yes.
"Hello What is your name?" I ask him.
"I am Morty Smith. My mom is Beth Smith and my dad is Jerry Smith." He smiles, friendly. Check that box for yes.
"How old are you and where do you live?" I ask.
"I am 14 years old and I live on (ADDRESS HERE)" he replies. I nod with a growing smile. I check that box off.
"Stand please" I ask politely and he stands with ease. The joints are in good condition and don't break and he does not wobble.
"Quickly check all other joins please, such as fingers, jaw, neck, toes and other movable and twistable things." I say and watch as he checks each one, soon he gets to his wrist and bends in shakily and groans with pain. I gasp and grab his hand to make him stop bending it. Maybe this one is a bit too rusty. I make him sit down again and carefully slip open his soft alloy skin.
"What's wrong with me? Did I break it?" He asks worriedly. Ah his emotions are kicking in too early! He must wait for his family!
"No no! Don't panic, it was my mistake. It must have had some rust in it..." I squeeze his other hand in reassureance. To help him learn kindness and manners, I must show it to him. He sighs in relief and nods with a soft smile.
"There we go! Now test it." I reattach a new hand. He bends his fingers and flips his wrist, no pain and no creak! Good good!
"Anywhere else that is painful?" I ask him. He shakes his head and thanks me.
"You're welcome! Now to go bring you to your new owners." I smile and stand up. He hesitates and looks up at me.
"New owners? But (y/n)!" He protests and stands quickly, knocking the chair backwards in his quick movements. He grabs a hold of my wrist and squeezed hard, it starts to hurt. I keep calm.
"Morty Calm down, I promise you they are very nice people. They asked me to make you just for them!" I say. He loosens his grip on my wrist.
"But I won't be a-able to see you again..." he frowns sadly at the ground. I pat his head. He looks up at me with a blush.
"I promise you that I'll check in every now and then, just to hear how my Morty is doing." I wink at him. He nods and looks down with pursed lips.
"B-b-but do I really have to go?" He pushes. I sigh and take his hand gently. I lead him to the window and we look over the beautiful city. It is late at night but the New York City lights and starry sky shine around the city, making it look magical and filled with aesthetics.
"They l-live so far away from here...how will y-you come see m-m-me?" I added the stutters into his programming because I thought it would be cute. And it is!
"I'm rich, Morty. I got a jet plane. And I can take you and your family out and about if they like. And you can call me if they don't like you or hurt you, ok?" I really loved Morty. Yup...I always have, ever since I got to know him, it was hard now to let him go, but I knew I had to.
"Ok..." and with that. We shipped Morty to the Smiths. He did protest more but they ordered me to shut Morty off, so I did and they finally got him into the plane in the storage deck. I watched them take off. I was crying that night as I laid in bed. Did I make a mistake in sending Morty away?
The next week, Morty called to update me on his journey. He was now at the Smith's using their phone. He told me that they had not been or had come home. Which made me confused but then my assistant got me into the break room where we heard the news and I'm in utter shock.
"Breaking news! A while city has been blown up by an unknown terrorist!" It then goes into detail about how the center of the explosion was the Smith house! I CALL MORTY BACK RIGHT AWAY, making sure no one heard me as I escaped to my office as everyone was having a commotion.
"M-morty?!" I asked as the phone picked up.
"I'm being sent back, did you hear what h-h-h-happened on the news?" He stammered out. I sighed in relief and intended my muscles.
"Thank God You're safe...tell me everything once you get back and yeah I heard everything. And y-yeah I saw..." he hummed in response and hung up.
Hours later Morty was back. He came in running and tackled me around the waste in a hug. He started to cry into my shirt. I squeezed him harder and closed my eyes in bliss.
"I missed you!" He exclaimed into me. I chuckled. Everyone around us was mumbling and watching.
"It was only 8 days!" I say loudly for the others around us then lean to whisper into his ear.
"I missed you too, Morty." We left into my office and I closed the blinds and the door so no one would snoop.
"Tell me everything." I say and sit him down in my couch next to me.
"Ok. S-so I got to the Smith house and no o-one was home. And there was a note on the fridge that said to send me back immediately so after I had finished calling you, I got back onto a plane by myself and came back here, I heard from the pilot on the plane that the whole town e-e-exploded! After that, you called me and now I'm back here." He says. I pat his back.
"I am legit so happy you weren't caught in the explosion Morty! I don't know what I would do without you..." I whimper slightly. My heart hurts and it's beating very fast as Morty smiles at me.
"I would really miss you too, (y/n). B-but...can I ask something?" He asked nervously and started to fiddle with his fingertips.
"Sure. What is it?" I reply. He looks everywhere accept me.
"Was I ever programmed...to um...l-love someone?" He asks. I decide to answer him honestly to see where this was going.
"Well yeah technically. I programmed your emotional hardware to learn every emotion and adapting an attitude depending on the others around you." I explain. He gives me a confused look.
"Your attitude depends on the people around you. It also helps you learn emotions. So yes you can learn to love someone. Why do you ask?" I ask. He turns into a stuttering and blushing mess.
"W-w-Well um...I kinda...I-I well I kinda..." I calm him down with a laugh.
"Morty, calm down! Just take a breathe and say it slowly." I smile. He nods and blushes even darker, I wonder if he is too hot right now.
"Ok..." he inhales, "I fell in love with you!" He blurted out. I froze. What do I say?!
"Well...um Morty...I..." I fiddle my fingers now and quickly take Morty's hand to stop myself from scratching my arm, which is what I do when I'm nervous, it usually ends up with a red arm.
"I love you too..." I gulp slightly and I feel like there is a lump in my throat. He leans in and I do to.
Our lips meet, and I've never felt such a spark explode in my heart before.
