The Sorting

I was nervous, I was about to be the most hated girl in school. The only person I'll have is Tonks, and that's only if I don't get in Slytherin. It didn't help that I'd be one of the first to be called. I felt the Blue Widow threaten to come out, so I took my bracelet off. I was twirling my long black hair in my fingers. Tonks noticed and took my hands in hers.

"Don't worry, there's no need to be nervous." Tonks whispered.
"You have no need, but if you didn't know my father is in Azkaban." I said worriedly.
"Oh, yeah, didn't think about that, sorry."
"It's fine, I'm only going to be the most hated girl in school." I said sarcastically.
"No, maybe, probably. Just don't worry about it."
"That's really hard."
"Let's talk about something else." I looked up to McGonagall.
"She's about to start talking, let's just be quiet."
"Fine."

"The sorting will now begin," said Professor McGonagall. Apparently I missed the song the hat sang I didn't care, really. In the pit of my stomach I felt ashamed. I felt like I was a burden. But I didn't know why I felt this way. I'm assuming Charlie was close enough to hear me and Tonks talking because he put a hand on my shoulder. I turned around, he gave me this face that said 'don't worry' and I immediately felt less tense.

After a few minutes my name was called.

"Black, Emma," said Professor McGonagall with pity in her eyes. Everybody immediately started whispering.

"Isn't her father Sirius Black,"
"She should be in Azkaban like her father,"
"Now we're all gonna die,"
"Let's hope she isn't in our house,"
"I don't fancy death,"

"WERE GONNA DIE BECAUSE OF HER," yelled one boy. I held my head high and sat on the stool. The sorting hat was placed on my head.

"Ahhh, another Black, much like your father. Mischievous, prankster, funny, brave, courageous, you would do excellent in Gryffindor. But you soul burns like a flame, you wish to prove yourself, to be loved, Slytherin would do nicely. You wish to learn, yes very smart, but not for Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff would welcome you, you do terrible with them, you do not belong there." the hat whispered in my head. I sat there for awhile. Finally, to my happiness, the hat yelled, "GRYFFINDOR.". Only Professor Dumbledore, Snape, and McGonagall clapped. I stood there for a second.

"GREAT, NOW ALL OF GRYFFINDOR IS GOING TO GET MURDERED." yelled a girl. I kept my head held high.

"If you wish to judge me on my name, I would like you to know I do NOT care what you have to say. I can and will turn my back on any bad thing you say about me because of my name. If you weren't all so rude you'd see I am nothing like my father. I can be rather nice when you get to know me, but I know none of you will take the chance of "death" to speak with me." I turned and walked up to Dumbledore, fully aware of all the shocked looks from students and Professors. "Professor, may I apparate to the common room, I know it's said apparating can only be done by the head master, but, let me try, please." he nodded.
"If you wish you may try, when you get there I will have a house elf bring you food." he said quietly for only me to hear.
"If I get there,"
"You will, the Blue Widow has very strong powers, meet me in my office tomorrow. We will teach you control, over time." I nodded, wide eyed, and tried to apparate. It actually worked and I was out of the Great Hall in a loud CRACK.

After Emma finished her rant she walked over to Dumbledore. I was actually glad she got into Gryffindor, I believed that she wasn't going to kill us all. The same didn't go for everyone else. A lot of people looked shocked by what Emma said. I was shocked myself.

After a few minutes of her speaking to Dumbledore, she apparated, to I assume the common room. Gasps went through the room. Dumbledore didn't look the least bit suprised.

"Children, the sorting will resume in a moment I must say a few words right now. As you know Miss. Black's father is Sirius Black, but she will do great things, she is a very sweet girl when in her good side. I personally know this for I go to her home once a month. However, being on her bad side can lead to very, serious, (A/N: haha serious. Sorry) consequences. I do not wish you to think bad of her immediately, for she is a strong Wich, that could easily kill you. But she will not. If you act like she will kill you I personally will put you in detention, I also advise you cherish her in her happiest moments. For when she is in her worst moments bad things could fall upon the Wizarding World. I'm not saying she will do these bad things, but another very dark wizard. She will be the one to help save out world." Dumbledore finished.

Everybody was shocked into silence, we all knew now we could trust the daughter of a murderer. Even if they didn't want to admit it, she was a brilliant girl. Honestly, I like her, but mum would go ballistic if she knew that.

I think Charlie likes her, I don't know what to do. He was good at hiding his emotions, but I was his best friend and brother. I knew him better. I didn't know how to go about telling her, so I decided to wait awhile. I honestly didn't know how along awhile would be.

I pulled myself out of my thoughts and watched the rest of the sorting. Clapping when we got a new member in our house.

Emma was bloody brilliant, I was happy she was in my house. Even though I hadn't been sorted yet I knew where I was going. I tuned back into the sorting when I heard a familiar name.

"Tonks, Nymphadora," said McGonagall. She sat there for like 1 minute before the hat yelled.
"HUFFLEPUFF," and all of Hufflepuff clapped happily. Then I tuned out again.

I only tuned back in when I heard my name.

"Weasley, Charlie," called McGonagall. I walked up and sat down.
"Another Weasley, GRYFFINDOR," the hat yelled the last part. The Gryffindor table clapped loudly, and Bill hugged me as I sat next to him.
"Congratulations mate," Bill said.
"Thanks," I replied and waited for the sorting to end. Dumbledore gave a speech, we were led to our common room by perfects, they showed us our dorms, and I fell asleep. That's all that really happened after the sorting.

I guess the other girls in my dorm didn't feel 'safe' with a Black sleeping in their dorm, so I slept in the common room. It wasn't enjoyable, the couch wasn't uncomfortable and the fire was nice, but I was lonely. I was right nobody in this school likes me now. Oh well, I'll get over it, hopefully they will to. I really hope sleeping in the common room doesn't become a nightly thing, I really don't like it. It was peaceful, don't get me wrong. But I hope to have some friends.

I fell asleep to the sound of the fire crackling blissfully. I couldn't wait to do magic tomorrow. I was excited. I hope I'm good at magic.
