There are certain things in this world that cannot be changed, Life, Death and also the speed of light. Yet, some things are a lot easier to change than you think…such as stories. Stories are thoughts in words, dreams in verse. THE STORY I AM ABOUT TO TELL YOU IS NOT A DREAM NOR IS IT A SINGLE THOUGHT… it is a nightmare, and a dark one at that. This is the story of the lost hunter and the rebellion…of NIGHTMARES!
“Now that the soft-hearted readers have gone, I can give you the real introdu-*cough* As the dust from the old book drifted up into the air Alex let out a small cough, so did his cat, and he let out a large sigh. This was his last day before the great voyage of his time, the first flight of the SS.NewDawn
… a small FTL engine ship, the first of its kind. However, Alex was not excited like everyone else… no, he was very worried, and if everyone else had read the book he had just been reading they would of all been too. The book in question was not of human origin however, it was of mantis design. The mantis’ idea of entertainment is primitive compared to the zoltan’s or human’s ideas of entertainment. Mantis entertainment mainly consists of violence and fear; basically the more it scared you the better the book was. Trust me when I say scaring a mantis is a very hard thing to do. Anyway as I was saying, the book was not of human origin, it was of mantis creation… the book which was quite small was a red-orange colour and had the word “FEAR” on the front and below this inscribed in mantishion, (a Mantis lettering style mainly used on the mantis home worlds,) it said “The chronicles of the Lost Hunter”.
Now you might say that it’s silly of Alex to let a made-up mantis book influence his feelings on this voyage, in other circumstances you would indeed be right. But not in this case, as “The chronicles of the Lost Hunter” is based on a real story. You see, a long time ago the engi were setting off on their first FTL powered exploration ship, (it was similar in design as the human one.) They had just set off when the ship suddenly disappeared… it had just vanished from existence, just gone. They sent up a small drone to investigate. The drone was remote control and the engis could see what it could see from the ground. But, it was worse than the thought. There was no sign of the ship… in its place there was a small, faint rip in space… a vortex, a wormhole a portal to another point in space and time. They peered through the gap and saw nothing, darkness… they had realised that it wasn’t empty space they were looking at, it was the drone… they had lost connection! Suddenly the radar lit up with a fast moving, red dot… it was coming straight for them! It was a trap!!! Then, they regained contact with the drone… and they got a look at their attacker, it was a huge, dark grey behemoth… the largest ship they had ever seen. This monstrosity was the size of their moon ten times over. Dark green lights coming from the small, sleek windows and massive, hull piercing laser cannons peering from the sides of the weapon slits. Then it, err…well disappeared I’m sorry to say. You see the engis sent out a distress signal before it disappeared, and when someone replied the planet was… well basically it had vanished like their ship had.
“Now do you see? NOW DO YOU SEE COMMANDER! This is why we need to call this off, it’s not safe,” Alex exclaimed as he shouted in the face of his superiors.
“I’m sorry Alex but there’s no way of convincing us, this is the epiphany of modern technology, and besides, the voice of one man cannot change the voices of others.”
“But Sir I-”
“Nothing you say will change my point of view on this, now get on that ship!”
“FINE!”
The walk up to the ship was a long one, especially for Alex, as he knew his inevitable fate… he was to die at the hands of the lost hunter and its unknown pilot… then… black…
